Great video, how did you keep up with him while he was running? I wouldn't have guessed it was all a handheld gimbal. What camera/lens combo did you use since these are really sensitive to weight?

I actually literally RANNNNNN with him! Of course this were small spurts, but man oh man.. Something I wouldn't think I could accomplish with my Steadicam Flyer LE system! I have all the freedom with no issues.

I had the A7Sii with the slow but effective, sony 28-70 FE lens. Being I know the great ISO capability I could sacrifice a little bit on the slow lens.

I ran with him during the bridge under tunnel shot, ran in the sidewalks, but a few shots I was able to sit behind a car and stick the rig out the winder on the side of the car (that's how amazingly small it is!)

That's awesome. I work out, but I don't think I could keep up with a college FB player for long.

The extra stabilization of the A7sII looks like it took the gimbal bounce out of the shots, smoooooth.

I did notice some post stabilization effects (I think) in the corners, especially around 1:04-1:07. Fantastic video though, CLD! I would have looked at this and assumed a whole lot of more expensive gear went into it!

Looks to me like a combination of stabilizers were at play here- the 28-70 has OIS, the CAME-TV stabilizer took the shakes out of your hand, and perhaps warp stabilizer in post to finish it off? Did you also use the A7Sii IBIS? I wonder how much of a difference it makes vs just using the OIS on the 28-70 by itself?

Yea, there has to be a little bit of post work for that shot from 104-107 as I bolted as fast as I can for that.. Plus we were at a downhill and on a narrow shakey bridge.. The original was a little shakey but overall I would not be able to get that in any other form! lol..

All those stabilization stuff you mentioned definitely helped.. the main reason I got that cheap slow lens.. lol. I played without the IBIS and it shows if you are handheld. The hardest shot I must say for me was the shot walking around the subject as the lens was all the way zoomed in and focus was a bit shallow.. overall I definitely tested the sh*t outta this gimbal and very happy..

I will post some raw footage of this shoot so you can see shots I was able to pull off.. in one take! lol

Cool- looking forward to it! I'm actually more interested in the difference between IBIS and without when using a lens that already has OIS. I also bought that 28-70 for this very reason - to use on my old Steadicam Jr at 28mm with stabilization. I'm shooting with an A7S original, so I don't have IBIS, and the Steadicam Jr is a decades-old design originally made for prosumer camcorders. It works OK, but I know I can do better so I'm trying to determine the weakest link in my setup.

I have the teamrebel design Beholder Ms1. And it works out great with the a7s if you don't use a big lens. 24-70 or 11-16 tokina I would not try but a light DSLR prime and circularND is fine.
It just fits rigged in my small backback with all other gear and that is so awsome. Made this with a friend on the beholder and it worked so fast and smooth. Its the BMPCC

Also worked with Epic and Ronin allot and sometimes there is so much delay if the setup changes. And it's to heavy to work all day with. Also with the exo or easyrig.
Can't wait for the pocket 4K raw (don't like the micro studio of blackmagic)

I keep vacillating between the various options. The one that most grabs my attention is the Beholder DS1. The advertised payload of 1.7 kg/3.7lbs is significantly more than the competition. For example the Came Single advertises 1.2kg/2.6lbs. I'm not sure how the Beholder is managing the extra. I assume they're all using more or less the same technology and parts.

One thought is that be careful about going to the limit on these things. They work better when they're not under stress. Some manufacturers are optimistic about the loads, some pessimistic. So i'd always err on the side of pessimism. By the time you load a camera, lens and perhaps a cage. Perhaps a monitor. Perhaps a follow focus - it all adds up quickly!

cheers
Paul

Yes. That's good advice. The difficult part is knowing to what extent the manufacturer's figures can be trusted. If they are accurate, then a setup that is at the maximum of the Came would be well within the limits of the Beholder. But if the Beholder's advertising is optimistic and the Came's pessimistic, there might be very little difference.

i use the beholder MS1 with the A7S + FE28-70 and its work.
the problem is when you change focal lenght or press record button the gimbal lose position and jitter alot.
i think beholder DS1 soon come out with encoders.this is my next buy..
