best codec/format for greenscreen work?

Just wondering if anyone can advise me on what would be the best format to work in for green screen?

I currently own a Panasonic GH1 and was considering whether to get an HPX170 or wait for the Scarlet if it comes out later this year.

Thanks in advance,

- Nick

Best: Film
Next Best: Uncompressed HD

Beyond that, many options. Choose the least compressed option you can get.

To augment the previous post, we shoot 720/60p with our 170 to a Reflecmedia screen.

Use Kelight, Primatte, Ultimatte, and DVMatte Pro to key

We shoot 1080i60 DVCProHD and key with Ultimatte. We are able to some great some great results.

Not matter what the codec, lighting for greenscreen in #1 priority. If you shoot uncompressed HD with bad lighting you will get a horrible key.

Also you could try an AJA Ki Pro- that would let you shoot directly to ProRes which is a cleaner codec than the one onboard the camera. But yes- with good lighting even DV can be keyed nicely.

You generally want the best resolution and the best color space.
So, if there is a choice: 1080p is better than 720p, and 4:4:4
is better than 4:2:2.

DVCPRO HD is not bad. Uncompressed would be better.
And a wrinkled screen will mess you up.
