FEATURE: Best camera for beginner?

What is the best (read: economical) camera for someone to cut their teeth on? I, for one, do not have tens of thousands of dollars to invest so I am looking for your opinions of good prosumer cameras that still produce good results. To give you a general idea, I am thinking in the $2000-$5000 range. Also, could someone please lend me $2000-$5000? Joking of course. For those low/no-budget filmmakers, what do you shoot with? Thanks.

we use these, awesome for run-n-gun, and adult flicks. In fact we just bought a rig for it.

Check out the DVX100. The HDSLR movement has pretty much knocked it out of the game as a comercial tool, but its wonderful for learning purposes. You can probably pick one up used for under $1000. If you want something a little more 'with the times' I'd check out the EOS T2i. I've never shot on it but its a pretty common cam for entry level DSLR filmmaking.

I have both of those cameras, and completely agree. In fact, buy both of them. Still well within the budget and you can sell one or both later when you are ready to move on.
