GH4 Best Cage for the GH4 with locking device for it's HDMI connector.

Does anyone know of a good cage that accommodates the battery grip? Not only in height but considering the offset of the quarter 20 at the bottom of the battery grip (not centered).

Sorry if this has been asked before. Didn't see. Thx!

Whatever happened to the HRC GH4 cage in development?

Been holding off major purchases until NAB & haven't been to Hot Rod Camera's since picking up the Vedryas. Last I heard Illya was patenting the Kung Fu Kit, so not showing it on the web, but if you contact them directly I think he will share.

I believe Blacklist Digital rents them.

It's true I decided to stop pushing the HRC Kung Fu Cinema System Kit while we went through the patenting process on some key components that have never been seen publicly. The "cage" portion is working on several major productions around the world and there will be at least 3x at NAB. It's sort of an Easter egg hunt, but will be posting some details on social media (facebook, twitter, instagram) and a new site called CamNoir.com during NAB.

We just got out super low profile certified 4K/2160p passing 18" micro HDMI to standard HDMI cables in yesterday, and anyone who has already secretly picked up one of our kits will get the cable for free. Also all of our KFCS kits from this point forward will include 1 of these cables for free.

mcbob, will you be at NAB next week? If so, I can give you a demo of the system in person.

I pre-ordered two of the smallrig GH4 cages for $75 US each. I can post pictures if requested, once I get top handles for them. I should have the top handles within the next month or so. I haven't had to test it in the field but it's a solid cage from what I can tell so far. It's also my first cage.

$75 for a cage? Is this a typo? Couldnt find a smallrig gh4 cage cheaper than $150.

No typo. It was a half off deal for preordering. It was $75 a piece and I got two for $150. This was just the cage and none of the accessories, which is why I still need to get a top handle for both.

Well heck, since the thread necromancers have done their thing and this may/may not still be relevant...

I wound up doing without for a long while and then finally purchasing the Varavon Armor 2 cage:

It checked all the boxes: tight contours, no interferences, small and easily convertible profile, doesn't rely on the camera hot shot for anti-twist. I added a pair of cold shoe mounts (one to the cage, one to the handle). The extra touches like the hand strap, built-in hex key holder and the handle/cage side rod holders to allow easy fitment of single-rod follow foci are extremely nice

Hey, what happened with the viewfactor cage?

Is it discontinued?
It looks like it has been discontinued, and that's a shame. I use that cage for my rig, and I found it to be very well made and very versatile in terms of configuration possibilities.

I bought this cage for the GH4.

Doesn't come with an HDMI locking device but it fits like a glove. Easy access to all ports and buttons. The LCD can swivel freely. Battery port unobstructed. Centered bottom hole so your rails will line up. All metal and solid. Only thing it lacks is anti-twist, but the camera tightens down very well, the rubber pads keeping it from slipping. One great thing, is that I have the QV1-M loupe, and if I remove the extra plate on it (which raises the loupe up for the GH4), I can attach the bottom plate to the cage as they are about the same thickness. I just leave it on permanently, and I have a Manfrotto compatible quick shoe under the cage that I attach the loupe to when necessary. Don't have an HDMI lock yet, but for now, I found that the space between two adjacent 1/4" 20 hex screws on the cage is just enough to fit an HDMI cable. I just thread the cable between them, hand tighten the screws down and that cable isn't going anywhere. The cage also has slots for a hand grip.
