Best brand memory cards for the Zoom H2 and H4n

Hi,

What are the best brand SD HC memory cards to use with the Zoom
H2 and H4n recorders?

Do Zoom recorders have recording and buffering problems with memory cards like DSLRs do?

I'm a big fan of Sandisk Extreme SDHC cards. Never had a problem with them.

And audio takes much less space than video, so you shouldn't have to worry much. However, Zoom recorders aren't impervious to data problems and there have been several stories (I experienced this myself with the original H4) of recorded files disappearing or being corrupted beyond resurrection.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for responding to my post.

What is your opinion of using the San Disk Ultra SD HC cards for audio recording?

What problem did you experience with the original H4? What card were you using?

Does it matter if an 8 gig, 16 gig or 32 gig card are used?

As I said, I'm a fan of Sandisk Extreme SDHC cards and have never had problems with them, meaning that I use them for my SD card devices... that includes one of my audio recorders (Tascam DR-40). I use Sandisk CF cards for my other audio recorders.

They're just fine for audio recording. The problem I experienced with the Zoom H4 (which I sold a long time ago), and that other folks have experienced: when recording is stopped, there may be no file on the card. There may be a file, but it's only really there in name and isn't very big (meaning the recorder indexed the file, but none of the audio was retained). There may also be a file there that seems like the full recording but is corrupted and cannot be opened and cannot be repaired. This is an intermittent problem, but it has happened.

As for card size, the only thing that matters is that you keep to the size limit posted by the manufacturer. The errors, at least as I've experienced them, are not based on card size.
