GH4 Best audio option for GH4?

Hi

Many thanks for all the info and posts. I have Xlr Sennheiser and NtG4 mics that I would like to run into the GH4. I have a pair of AF100s and these mics sound great when run through that without any external mixer.

I have a Tascam DR40 but find it eats batteries so to keep things light, I'm now looking at the Beachtek DXA SLR Ultra to run them into. Would like to buy a mix pre but at the mo, Ive just spent on a Speedbooster and a couple of lenses (which will get used on the AF100) so literally got £400 left for the Beachtek and a Tiffen ND until I get some paying jobs in.

I would also take a look at the Tascam DR-70, which is a fair bit cheaper than the Beachtek DXA SLR Ultra, it has good mic pre-amps, and it enables you to record with your camera and to it's own recorder at 24-bit at the same time. ( right now B&H Photo are throwing in a free copy of Sony Sound Forge Pro 11, which costs about $400 all by itself )

Tascam DR-70D 4-Channel Audio Recording Device : $300

Hi

Ive been reading about signal interference that the Tascam DR-70 gives off when its either too near the camera or headphones. Can anyone comment on this as I'd rather have an updated recorder with audio backup. Don't really mind about resyncing as I have Pluraleyes but I'd rather not have to do it with every clip if I can't run it into the camera and record dual.

Hi Guys

I've run quite a few tests this morning, the first being recording some music and tv from my pc using external speakers. Was a bit disheartened as it sounds like some low volume radio that always plays in barbershops. Was quite disheartened, especially when I got better results doing the same on the AF100.

Never one to give up, I decided to record the wife reading something and got much better results from running the Sennheiser directly into the camera using an Xlr to 3.5mm converter and also running the Xlr mic into a DR-40 and then into GH4. I was quite impressed with the sound quality.

I'm still wavering here as to get the Tascam DR-70 or the new Beachtek Ultra. Can't really find any shootouts as to which gives the best audio quality.

Regards

T
