Best adapter to use with a Canon FD 50mm 1.4

Hi guys, I just picked up a cheap Canon FD 50mm 1.4. It seems like a nice fast and cheap prime to have in my kit. I currently only have the Lumix 14-140mm and 20mm pancake.

My question is what adapter would be recommended with a manual lens like this. I was looking at the Novoflex one, which comes in at around £120.00 GBP, however there are an awful lot of much cheaper adapters that people seem to use without complaint for the FDs.

Is the Novoflex worth the extras cash?

Also would anyone who uses the FDs on their AF100/101 or GH2s recommend getting a set of FD primes if I can get them cheaply enough? I see no reason why not, but I'd appreciate some input from those that have used them.

cheers

I have a cheap FD to m4/3 adapter that I got off ebay. Shipped from China. While I haven't used the Novoflex adapter, I find that my Chinese adapter works just fine. There is no light leakage, it fits the lens just right and fits the camera just right as well. And since the lens is full manual, there are no moving marts on the lens adapter to worry about.

I really like the FD primes and the Nikon AIS primes. Both work really well for me. I don't have what I would consider to be a full set, but the ones I use (50mm, 28mm, 45mm minolta, 35mm coming soon) work great...especially at their price point.

I have four FD adapters - I don't remember the names of the cheap ones I bought off ebay - but the Novoflex is the only one that focuses accurately to infinity, I use the "cheap" ones on anything over 50mm, but for wide, or zooms, I always use the Novoflex.. In fact, I'm going to get a couple of more of them since it looks like these are likely to be the best affordable lenses (that focus clockwise) for the AF.

I have 4 FD primes - 24mm2.8, 35mm2.8, 50mm1.4, 85mm1.8 and find them to be extremely sharp and well suited to the AF100. I also have a FD 35-105mmf3.5 that I really like and use most often. I bought a total of 5 Fotodiox FD-MFT adaptors for about $30 apiece on Amazon and am totally pleased with the tight fit and infinity focus, plus the customer service from Fotodiox is second to none.

I also just picked up a Nikon 18-35mmf3.5 and bought another Fotodiox NikonMFT adaptor that is a great tight fitting, infinity focus adaptor at a great price. (see below)

WRONG - NIKON FOTODIOX IS NOT GOOD FOR INFINITY FOCUS - BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!

Also would anyone who uses the FDs on their AF100/101 or GH2s recommend getting a set of FD primes if I can get them cheaply enough? I see no reason why not, but I'd appreciate some input from those that have used them.

Hi,

I have almost exclusively used FDs because they're so easy to get and cheap (also have the Lumix 14-42mm). I have a 24mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8 and 135mm 2.8. I just recently got a 70-200mm & a 100-300mm zoom. I use the Novoflex, and it's great, although I'm sure some of the cheaper ones are fine too.

The Fotodiox adapters are adequate , the novoflex is excellent, the Ciecio7 at less than 1/2 the price of the novoflex is always my first choice.

Just a heads-up: Ciecio7 sells 2 Canon FD versions, the one with beautiful support built into it won't fit on the AF100 without removing the support (two hex socket machine screws).
