Best 35mm adapter?

Hi guys,

I own a CANON XH-A1 and i'm planning on buying my first 35mm adapter. I've been going though many forums to decide which one would suit the best to my use.

My budget is about 3'000 dollars for a DOF adapter + rod system + lenses + external monitor.

I looked into the new SG blade, the brevis and the cinemek G35. The cinemek seems to be really nice, although it loses pretty much light, but I'd rather get one with a flip module system.

I'm intending to use it for indie filmmaking, low-budget productions.

Which one would you guys recommend to me?

Thank you for all propositions.

I love my G35, but if the light loss is something you can't deal with,
or just aren't ready to, go for the blade. it's well built, and is really
versatile if you buy the RR2. The RR2 produces a great image, and when
light is a problem, switch it out for the RR1, which also produces a
beautiful image.

and as far as what is the best, based on image quality alone, it's all
about what one produces an image you are happy with. I've seen
absolutely beautiful footage from all of the adapters, and the complete
opposite from all of them.

if you want build quality, the G35 is the most rock solid, and I was
really impressed with SGBlade while I had it to play with, and look forward
to having one in my kit.

I can't speak to build quality for the others.

Good luck!

i just got the redrock m2encore. you should check one out if you haven't yet. edge to edge focus is the best i have ever seen and light loss is very minimal. plus, unlike the LEX it's a spinner so you can stop down your lens and shoot high shutter speeds. $2000 including flip module and rods. i think they are 10% off right now. NAB deal.

I got recently got the letus bundle for two reasons.

1. It was available. SGBlade would not be until May. I got the letus in 1 week.

2. I preferred the looked of the G35, but from what i read about having to have additional lights and such, would go over my budget.

So far from my test, im pretty happy.

I've bought the Shoot35 SgBlade bundle with Flip.

Pros:

- It's very well made (much better than Letus extreme).
- You have interchangeable GG which is very cool:
- RR1 with 0.5 light loss (so the best you have so far and on par with the top Letus and RedRock adapters)
- RR2 with - probably - the best bokeh of all adapters you can buy.
- The upcoming RR3 (which will be - probably - the best light efficient GG on the market.
- You can buy the package for much less than all the others because it's a EU based company, so no TAX import now that you are on Schengen space.

Cons:

- It's a bit noisy compared to my own Sg Rev3
- Yes! As stated by many it suffers from CA (as well as others out there - some much more expensive), but nothing that a new achromat wouldn't solve. I've talked with Wayne from Shoot35 about this and he told me that they are going to develop a new achromat after all the work they have to ship all their orders.

Conclusion: I have to say that I'm very happy with it. It makes stunning pictures with the XH-A1 (one of my cameras). As Philip Bloom said, it's not the best adapter in the world. You have the Letus Ultimate if you are willing to spend 4 times the cost of a Blade. For the price, I think it can't be beat.

Cinemek g35 ex1 screen grabs

Cinemek g35 ex1 screen grabs

Hey guys, okay just got back from a gig. Here are some screen grabs from the initial set- up test shoot G35- EX1. I apologize for shooting flowers and family but they work cheap and are non sag! ( lol) It is important to understand an image this great right out of the box has put alot of power in Indie hands. Watch out Spielberg. I'm not that familiar yet with the attachment process so bare with me, i guess there are file size restrictions, oh god dreaded jpeg compression.

Minimal lighting on interior shots, no Picture Profiles , No grading, this is raw! Will shoot more this weekend, anybody who has ordered a G35 has alot to look forward too!
Peace Out

Thank's guys for your recommendations, I finally purchased an SG Blade with Flip module+ non Flip module + rods

Good choice, SaN.

So far, the A1 with SGBlade combo is some of the most beautiful and cinematic footage I've seen from the slew of adapter/prosumer cam combos.

I'm dying to order one for my A1 and Nikon glass. Very close in pulling the trigger.
