bendable dolly track

thanks for the idea. is there any special way to seal off the end of the hose once the sand is in there or do i have to get creative? does home depot sell clamps or caps to put on the end?

I've never been able to get super smooth results with hose track. I find they're not stiff enough (albeit I've not tried filling them with sand) and getting a consistent curve on both sides of the track is challenging.

What I like to do is put a piece of rope through a pvc pipe and tie the ends together forming a kind of bow. The PVC is sturdier than hose and if you measure the rope you can bend the PVC at exactly the same curvature. Granted you can't bend it as much as hose but I find it's rare the occasion that I want to.

brilliant. although i imagine getting both tracks to bow the same is quite a challenge.

hmmm. i am not sure which to try.

if i went with the hose approach, i would need to find one with a smooth surface. a garden hose with texture probably wouldn't do.

there has got to be some smooth heavy duty hose out there that somebody manufactures that can be used. right?

Look for industry hoses. Better diameter and available in smooth. A bit more pricey thou.

I sealed the ends with a aluminum plug (cut of a rod) and two hose clamps on each side.
Good thing with the sand is, they lay out very nice and stay in shape.

Cap one end and plug the other. On the cap end insert a fill nozzle. Fill it with air.
Don't go messing around with sand.

Will air hold the shape like sand will? I get that it will prevent adding a lot of weight but will it do the job you want it to do?

I have no experience with this at all, but my thought is that air is gonna go where it wants to go; I would imagine that having the hose hold shape will be difficult, and the caps will need to be very secure to hold all the air in.

The air would hold up fine with enough pressure. You should not fool around with high pressure on any old hose. If I were doing this I would use hydraulic hose, it can take pressure.

What do you need bendable track for?
Curved track is one of the most ordered and least used items on set.
Bendable track is a specialty item that is rarely, rarely used.
