Bena - "Things that go Bump"

I am glad a few of you liked it.

Let me say that following Eric around for an hour with my DVX on a steady stick was not fun and a bit painful, especially at the end when I had to hold it one handed. Oh and the night before we drank like fish ;'p

I love the colors, esp in the elevator and the Red Bricked tunnel ( which IS the Underground rail road) looks like a 16mm film.

As far as the length, if this had been in a movie where you had time to get to know the main character, you might have watched the whole thing without fast forwarding. I am sorry, but this is how suspense is built.

Sometimes horror needs a good slap or head crushing!

What did everyone think of the sound mix and or the music?

How well did I Steadicam the film?

I guess this could be shortened, but there is so much good looking footage.

Btw, the shot through the hole was an actual hole in the wall of the furnace room. Not sure why it was there, but what the hell, lets use it.

Trust me, I am writing a Real Horror Script and its no Joke. Now I need to raise about 100k to shoot it. Anyone have some investors "dying" to make a horror movie?

Oh, and that Acting in the furnace room when the door slams... That was not acting!

He thought we could have truly been locked in the room ( priceless!!!), he did not know I was going to slam that door, and I did not know the door could have locked us in there. Wouldn't that be funny if we got locked in there and died and they found the footage we shot... Ha! Just like blare Witch... but Better.

And don't forget the great eyebrow acting coming out of the Brick tunnel, not too shabby.

Very funny Bena!!!! 'crush your head...crush it...' LOL!!!!
I was disappointed it ended that way though, even with that comedy ending I'd need something more...at least some credits...
Before that however all ran smooth as hell. Nice steadicam work!!! And the lighting was very well set up. Eric did a nice job by being convincing and the sound (even without any dialogues) seemed quite nice.
Some might say this was a bit too long for that kind of an ending...probably they'll be right. I do believe you had a great location down there and nice little tools to make something really scary!!!

Man, bena... I WANT TO CRUSH YOUR HEAD!!!!!!!!!!

That was fun. Great work on the steadicam and lighting. I thought that the sounds were great and you had me all the way.

Gotta tell you, you could have ended that with someone jumping out from something and made me jump! Sure would have work after all that build up.

Great job of creating suspense!

Ted

Review | POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT! I watch the movies first time around strictly for enjoyment, second and third for review.

LoL. Looks like you dudes had fun playing in the basement of wherever that was. Creepy atmosphere.

Yea i really liked the location.... NO WAY in hell you'd ever get me down there.

I mean cmon.... when they built that basement, did the contractors say, heyi got an idea lets put 1 tiny lightbulb in eachroom that flickers.... and leave lots of weirdly shaped Dead spaces that light never goes into.......

Your sound was great.

Agree with everyone else - ending was funny, but it took WAY TOO LONG to get there. The movie really dragged. I'd chop it down, and then you'll be made.

Acting: Some nice reactions from your lead, wanted a few “What the hell!” , ”Hello?” to build the tension.
Script: Predictable but then again didn’t see that ending coming.
Direction: Some nice ideas.
Music: Proper horror.
Editing: A little choppy, your pacing is good, but when he comes out of the lift, I felt that you didn’t trust yourself enough by keep from cutting back and forth.
Lighting: Not bad. A bit confusing when some areas are dark and you cut to the reverse and it’s lighter.
Loved: The lift, (great location), the basement (another great location), the door shutting, the radio coming on, character through the hole shot, (nice) , your payoff.
Hated: The unnecessary cutback to the door, then cutting back when the door when slamming, wanted you to shine the torch towards the camera to add depth, that the banging noise wasn’t constant and built over the whole piece, personally I think you missed a trick here.
Overall: Some nice ideas overall, It worked for that payoff!

PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS ON 'BROKEN CIRLCE' (THANKS)

bena, Conratulations on your film! Suckered me right in! :)

Best of luck to you. I'll be checking on that Red Lightning real soon!

Ted

its funny coming back after all these years to reread these comments.. Im laughing cause I paid to see paranormal activity and you are complaining about the built up in a 5 min movie and yet they made millions on that crap that dragged for 90 mins.
