"Below Dry Water" - Teaser

Nice work miniman. I paritcularly liked the attempted use of shadow and contrast along with an unstable camera aesthetic. That helped create a sense of confusion and tension in the later part of the trailer. I'm not sure how serious this project is thoug. It has kids in it but it seems to have a rather more adult theme with gun shooting, stalking, horror/murder undertones etc. Different language so i dunno whether I am way off. Just going by the images I saw. Regardless. Nice job. The opening with the bikes in contrast to the madness at the end is a nice book end mechanism.

The movie/project is as serious as I could make it, but it really is hard to find actors who are like 10 years older than me... Glad you like it :)

Hey that looks really good miniman! What type of seetings did you use when filming this? Also, great CC job you did. Honestly, it looks awesome.

Thanks guys :)

@Coffee:
I belive it was all shot on F5/F6 default settings (25p). The present lightning was really great, and we actually found an old fluorescent tube in there, which we used quite much for lightning.

All CC has been done in Vegas 5.0, using color corrector and channel blend.

Keep them comments coming folks!

Looks really good, congrats.

Only things I don't like:
-The shot of the Coke pouring we start with a close up of the pour, then the medium, it's just like, too emphasized or something, like 'whoa check out the kid pouring Coke into a glass!' If the point of this is to show the kids being kids or whatever while a monster is about to break loose have them doing something a little more interesting, like playing video games, lol I don't know

Seriously, everything else I really liked. Got some great shots, lighting is good, looks very filmic. Nice work.

And dude, if you're only 14, wow... that's very impressive.

Man that's awesome. Can't wait to see all of it.

Hey so the muzzle flashes, could you tell us how you did them? Was it After Effects or something?

Thanks for sharing!

Didn't use anything but Vegas and Paint Shop Pro on it. The flashes were created simply with the lightning tool in Paint Shop Pro 8

Wow, that was cool man. Looks great, very sophisticated. The theme of the movie seems perfect for a 14 yr old filmmaker.......You little bastids are takin over! Have you seen "City of God"? That reminded of it a little. There's actually a thread on that movie right now in the Film Discussion forum. (Themes might be a bit adult, but it seems like you could handle it.) Keep it up man, you're gonna keep getting better, and when you do, we're all in trouble.

Dear Cryogenic,

Thanks for the plug... I have been composing for over 30 years and have written 5 symphonies, chamber symphonies, operas, multi-media works, chamber music, songs, and much more. I went to CalArts and have a great deal of knowledge about film scoring, but I have never pursued it professionally. At this point in my career, in addition to my concert and opera projects, I am very interested in scoring some quality film projects and I am temporarily willing to consider low pay/no pay projects until I have created a quality reel of work. I have had a diverse and interesting career having been composer-in-residence for many major organizations worldwide, including Joe Papp and the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and The NationalTheater of Mannheim.

Please take some time to listen to clips of my music via my website and consider me for any upcoming projects: http://carsonkievman.com (go to SOUNDS) also you can start with http://www.myspace.com/carsonkievman

Regards, Carson

Oh hi Carson! :)

You didn't reply to my last email, which made me think I scared you off in some way... Now I have got someone else to score this particular movie. But belive me, you are on the top of my list for my next serious movie project. Anyway, I would recommend you to see the final movie before you offer more of your generous help, becuase I don't want you to score lousy movies :) . I guess my next big project will be some time around christmas, when the snow starts to fall; And if I'm happy with it, I'll be in touch with you to score the movie.

I really hope that the soundtrack for this one is finished soon so that I can show you the whole short film! :)

EDIT: Doh! realised you weren't talking to me. But anyway, I'll be in touch upon my next project.
