GH2 Being Talent & Tech with the GH - Digital Film Making Finally Beats Chemical Film

I agree. 28 days later did look smushy though.

Very smushy, but the story is filled with so much flavour. Seeing less fuels the imagination to upscales and fills in the gaps. Seeing the monster is never as scary as not seeing it.

Go back and listen to Radio Plays, they knew how to tell/sell a story, An obvious example was Orson Welles in 1938 WOTW play. Today's story tellers have fallen asleep at the wheel and let technology take them for a ride.

but it's hard to get something shot on VHS in a professional door.

I believe the average enthusiast has been kept out on purpose. Its the same in every field. The vanguard don't want upstarts with fancy ideas to challenge dogma. A novice can't tell a director of photography how to shoot and light a scene because he doesn't have the credentials. Regardless of the vision and imagination they posses.

I toyed and waited a long time. I thought I had reasons and a lot of excuses. I don't anymore and now know the only thing in the way of me is me. (pushes self out of the way)

Its always the confidence and lack of that stops us before we have even begun in life. "Who am I? I can't say this, or do that." "What if I get laughed at" I don't want to be humiliated"
I see people on X-Factor and in the face of a thousand boo's and three red X's , they still smile and believe in themselves. Bravo you crazy unique tuneless git, you have something 99% of people will never have. An indomitable confidence that no matter how unjustified is yours.

You don't need professional technology which is a band aid for the ego, a misdirection and game we are taught to play as children. We need an honest tone of voice and a story to tell. Would we laugh at Van Gogh Starry Night in comparison to Leonardo da Vinci Mona Lisa? For me Van Gogh was an artist first and technician last. Never believe that a good story needs a loud, professional voice, it does not. When you strike the right note a whisper will do.

Wait wait.... I take it all back: This thing kicks a$$ I pulled it out of the old man's garage.... where is the record button though?

"I'm watching the Godfather right now on Blu-Ray and it's a grainy mess in many scenes lacking detail."

You mean The Godfather one of the tour de forces of cinematography, maybe one of the 15 or 20 most beautifully shot films ever....

We're ALMOST to the point where a top of the line digital cameras (Alexa, F65, etc...) CAN look ALMOST as good as 35mm film (in the hands of equally competent cinematographers). It's not about pixel peeping in the shadows, it's about the roll off of the highlights, the organic nature of grain (which can look beautiful as compared to noise which always looks like ****).

We're almost there. Probably one more generation of the top end cameras and they'll be comparable to film.
The advantage of digital is all in the workflow.

I'm sorry - but I HAD to amend this post. I just watched the 2nd part of the shootout and Mr tour de force Francis picked the GH2 as his favorite look!

Isn't Ironic! Don't Ya think!

HACKED GH2 - the little camera that could!
