BEHOLD!!! The POOF! test.

Re: BEHOLD!!! The POOF! test.

Nice secretary ;)

Looks good, did you create that yourself or are you using a prefabricated FX program like AlamDv? Only critique would be to try to get the FX to alter the lighting of the scene. I realize this was a test and probably not possible where you were, but it would make the FX seem to be integrated into the scene a little better. Neat effect!

Re: BEHOLD!!! The POOF! test.

Very good test - loved it.
Wondering about the two light (white?) lines that show up near the right edge during the the first poof though. The other two have a line at the the right edge.
Please tell us how you did it!!

Re: BEHOLD!!! The POOF! test.

POOF! After many hours of examining your clip I have discovered the source of your phenomenon. In the first few moments you can clearly see a co-worker using the microwave. After she presses the "Enter" button, to begin heating her Hot Pocket, you disappear and she magically appears. The microwave and Hot Pocket have caused a rip in the time-space-continum.

Be careful. With great microwave power comes great responsibility!

Re: BEHOLD!!! The POOF! test.

Oh, man. PK got it right.
Well, not really....but she DID use the microwave.

And now for the big reveal!
It was all fake! Through the miracle of motion photography I acheived what we in the "business" call a special effect.

(ahh, that was fun ;))

I used Particle Illusion for the actual effect. Then slapped it in after effects. I don't know if Particle Illusion works with alpha's so I just used the screen blending mode to get rid of the black background I had rendered it on.

So I shot me and my co-worker 10 seconds of each, captured it and used after effects to composite it all. I just tweaked opacity to fade me out and her in because the camera didn't move. Because the "poof" is so fast your not paying attention, to the actuall people. But heres a hint, if you look at my legs you can see me fade away, also at my head, because I'm so much taller than her.

Whoo this is long, Particle Illusion has a free 30 day trial. and this was the test to see if we wanted to buy it. It comes with alot of presets and I just tweaked one of them a little.

Re: BEHOLD!!! The POOF! test.

Oh the sound was ripped from the Starcraft game. and then I just played it in reverse for the second poof. I wanted something that sounded more like a BAMF! from X2 but oh well.

The white lines are the edge of the effect, when I placed it in I didn't see them, you only see it on the first one because I increased the size of that layer for the other poofs.

HEY!! toilet_bob nice fx you have there . :o
Particle Illusion works really well with alpha chanels if you export you movie as image sequence like TGA and PNG.
this way you can composite in after effect anyway you want.

Re: BEHOLD!!! The POOF! test.

ahh, never thought of that! I only used it for a little bit today before getting back to REAL work (like browsing this site ;))

Now insomniac, get some rest, go to bed.
