Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

Gavin,

This is just a great looking video. Superbly thought out and really, really interesting to watch. I must congratulate you on such an achievement.

Where is the making of file? I couldn't find it.

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

Hey, thanks for sharing/creating the making of video. These behind the scenes videos really help give a taste of real world experience and how things actually get done.

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

Yeah, I've always been a big fan of documentary/making-of stuff. This clip is included on the Band's short DVD we just finished that they're selling on tour and using as an EPK. There's a longer, more involved look at the making of the video that's part of a longer documentary about the band hitting stores sometime next year.

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

cool. i like the editing. fun to see how people make their stuff. What was that building? A Factory or something?

Kickass video man!

****.....this is a lot better than so many on TV...

Only complaint: Frontman needs to work on his frontman skills, and his lip-synching.....
but thats not your problem.

That was ****ing impressive man.

"****.....this is a lot better than so many on TV..."

Thanks dude.

Frontman needs to work on his frontman skills, and his lip-synching..... but thats not your problem.

Yup, Gary (the frontman) and the boys are new to video performance... we shoot their new video in a few weeks... so check back and see if they've upgrade their school of rock degree :)

"That was ****ing impressive man."

Again thanks.. first video... working on one with the boys in Switchfoot on Oct. 22nd. Geek'd for that. Hoping working with talent of that calibre only makes me rise to the occasion more than ever before.

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

"Making Of" videos are an interesting emergent property of the original work.

This Making Of was very good. Did your own crew do this, or did you try to have a sort-of independent videographer put it together? If your own people did it, did you PLAN for it?

I've been trying to engage a friend of mine who does superior documentaries to shoot some Making Of videos of my crew when we're working a project, but she hasn't accepted any offers yet.
I am thinking of asking someone else who's hungry. My assumption is that my crew is busy enough working on the project itself without having to detach long enough to do a Making Of segment as well.

My assumption is that an independent videographer is going to capture and spin things during the production that I'd never think of, and insert their own interesting story into the mix...

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

This was my "crew" that shot the documentary footage. I did the editing with another one of my editors. I actually have documentary deal of sorts for the story of my company... a bunch of young filmmakers, following them on their journey to success... so we end up documenting everything that we do so once and a while for a project like this where it also helps the band for their DVD/website we'll release the footage and making something out of it.

Thanks for the compliments. I love shooting/editing documentary stuff almost as much as narrative filmmaking. This video was cut in a day and there's a longer, more indepth look at the making of the video coming with the band's full length DVD due out next year.

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

We built the dolly the night before the shoot. No specific guide used. Just a few trips to Home Depot... if you email me at gavin@mimeticonline.com I could detail a little better about what we used and how we put it together.

One word ... absolutely f_ _ king amazing work dude. Well - that's more like 4 or 5 words but I'm sure you get my meaning. Well done - I am truly inspired again ... that no matter what ... this CAN and WILL be done. Nice post.

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

I want to add to what everyone else said --- of the hook!!

What did you post on? - How did you make the TV effect?

sam

Re: Behind The Scenes of DVX Music Video

The tv effect was created by shooting the televisions unplugged with nothing on the screen. Then in After effects the images were lined up and placed behind a mask that was framed around the edge of each television. From there the image was altered in regards to static noise, colour, flickering, etc.

That's about it!~
