Behind the scenes of "Ambulance" music video

Bob, I really enjoyed that. I'm having trouble figuring out what the background will look like in the music video. It seemed that they were shooting against a grid part of the time (different than the egg crate grid on the lights). Is that what the background will look like, or is it used for compositing somehow?

I think the director is either going to have the grid or black as the background. The eggcrate is not intended to be a background in the video. It's just for side lighting.

Bob,
I've looked at a good deal of your footage and I'm always blown away. I think you are sooooo talented. Why aren't you in LA?

Thanks! Hey it's ok to be talanted and be in Canada or any other part of the world. I'm just not an LA kind of guy.

No, no. I'm not crazy about LA either. I meant, why aren't you in LA so you can shoot my movies.

So you dunno where to get the green treadmill?

Kholi,

It looked kind of homemade to me. Not sure where you can buy something like that. I'd go to fitness depot and buy a treadmill and then paint it.

Thanks! I was thinking I'd do that, but wanted to make sure before I went out and got messy.

Looks like I'll be building one soon.

Great footage, once again.

Lovin the video Bob...

don't care for the new name "Pilot Speed" (formerly known as Pilate) but what can you do? Dang Legal issues. I do really like the new disc though... Was it the same director who did the video for "overrated?"

Bob, great stuff!!

I've never been to a music video shoot, so this is great for me

freakin' killer song too.

EDIT:

I just realized you live in Toronto... how did you hear about the shoot and how did you get on set?

Looks great!
Seeing this type of footage validates this camera so much more. It really is good enough to do music videos, features and commercials.

The one thing that i noticed though, with a lot of the footage shot on the HVX (in general, not just this video) is the saturation/chroma levels. I think if they were desaturated just a bit, you would get an even more filmic look. For example, the dressing room footage, even though it was just flourescent lighting and not really light, had a lot more pleasing and flmic look than the film lighting used for the production of the video.

I am going to be a PA, or a 1st AD/2nd DP on a music video soon. Hopefully, I can learn a lot while I am there :)

They had a lot of red light blasting on the guys which is probably what you're seeing.

Great video Bob! It was great to meet you at Image Gear also today. Swing by whenever you need anything.

That was some really stunning work Bob, congrats. The look you have achieved certainly makes the adapter scene seem a little less important :) But we all knew that anyway right? :p

You may know my cousin in Toronto, Duane Crichton, I recently shot a vid for Elizabeth Shepherd with him here in London....good fun :)

Keep up the good (Great!) work!

Anthony

Yep, confirmed. What you shot is better. The official video just looks too much like a music video for my taste. Excellent work on yours, editing, composition, everything.

That was my feeling also, but we could be biased here....
Wonder what the budget was for the "video" vs.
what Bob turned out??
