Behaviour of auto shutter/ISO ?

For some quick shoot in the street, I'd like to work with Aperture priority (in creative movie mode), so the cam can find itself proper exposure, lock, and record.

So the cam is left with 2 parameters to play with to find the proper exposure: shutter time and ISO.

Ideally, I'd like it to use the longest shutter time it can (like, not too far from PAL1/50), then adjust ISO. But nowhere in the manual is the auto shutter+ISO behaviour described, any hint on that ?

If you wanna do some run-n-gun with no control over lighting or DOF, use SHUTTER priority/auto ISO. (All in Movie Mode, of course...don't shoot video with any other dial settings.)

IMHO, the last thing you want the camera controlling the shutter speed when shooting video.

If you're going to be shooting outdoors in the Sunlight, get yourself a FaderND...then you can shoot in Manual, control your DOF by setting any aperture you want, lock your shutter speed, lock the ISO, and control the exposure by watching your in-camera meter and simply turning the FaderND as needed. It's extremely simple, and better than just letting the camera shut the aperture down to its smallest setting...which it will do in bright sun.

Good luck!

swyzlstyx: Actually I want to shoot Aperture priority to keep a shallow DOF (that's my priority for theses shoots).
Why is it a bad thing that the camera control shutter speed ? I'm locking exposure before starting to record anyway. Fortunately, the GH1 can chose higher ISO so it stays around 1/30-1/100 shutter speed, which would be find for me... But the behaviour is undescribed in the manual.
Otherwise, is there any way to have manual aperture+shutter, and auto ISO ? I didn't find how to do this.

Indeed, I bought a ND8 for outdoors shoots, ISO 100 is way too sensitive in the sun light !

I did some tests with auto ISO and... it behaves exactly as I hoped !
Which mean the cam uses the slowest shutter/lowest possible ISO.
Also, it looks that auto ISO never go higher than 400 ISO.

So Aperture priority mode with auto ISO/Shutter + lock is perfectly suited for quick movie look in just under 4 sec :)

Even if AE lock keep shutter speed locked, you have no control on the shutter speed the camera arrive at. Shutter priority and ND filter is the way to go if you need to work at shallow DOF in day light.
