Beginner Idiot Needs Help! (DVX100B workflow)

I thought the name DingDong is appropriate since I think I got in way over my head! I purchased from eBay a Panasonic AG DVX100B to shoot family movies, sporting events and making up fun shows with my kids. Now I can't seem to download anything I have taped to my computer. I purchased the Sima product that has every port imaginable to link the camcorder up to the computer; however, my computer doesn't recognize anything has been plugged in. I have the 1934 port plugged in, camcorder on and have tried both camera and vcr setting. I can't seem to find a software driver that is needed to be able to download. I was hoping that someone could stop laughing  at me long enough to help me figure out what I need to do. Once I get the computer to recognize that I am trying to download video, I have downloaded the trial versions of Avid and Vegas to determine which is better/easier to use to edit.

Also, would love your thoughts on boom mic vs. individual wireless. This would be fore interviews and the fun sitcom shows with the kids. Please feel free to recommend any other accessories that are great to have.

Would greatly appreciate someone's expertise and some help!

Thanks!:dankk2:

Hi Ding Dong,
The easiest way i have found to transfer is via the firewire connection and using simple old windows movie maker. Once saved then use any editor you like.
Place the camera in VCR mode and Movie maker takes control.

Panasonic AG DVX100b using VISTA

Panasonic AG DVX100b using VISTA

Well I found that my problem (evidently a common one for Vista users) has been trying to download my video because I am using Vista. The solution is to use a 1394 4 bit to 4 bit cable! I was trying a 4bit to USB and it would not work.

Good luck to anyone else having this problem and use 4bit to 4bit!!

Another Vista success story. History will rank Vista on the Lemon List right next to the Edsel and the Spruce Goose.
