DUDE! It only gets more powerful as it builds steam!! If you didn't get through to the end, you simply have not seen the video. I'd encourage you to open your heart, put the video full screen and sink in. Most people I show it to end teared up by the close...

OK, when I have a little more time I will try again.

Great use of slow-mo in this video, though I wish they had used a black-legged tripod so you don't see silver-tripod legs in the soap-bubbles. ( and kid with the raccoon-hat has "grumpy cat" eyes )

Ever thought about auditioning for the "Emperor Has No Clothes" movie? :2vrolijk_08:

I at least partially agree with you. I thought that this was a better work of his. Certain scenes here could be considered cinematic if placed in the full context of a movie.

Man, am I loving this forum. Learning so much.
i liked this above video better than the top post. The reason was because I wanted to be there... On vacation. The OP's video was shot at the best time of day and was nice and soft, at least on my 28 inch monitor. I have a photography background and only recently started shooting video as a hobby for now. Like photography lighting really makes a video. If there is no subject people can still marvel at the colors of the light, but with video if there is no story or subject to keep us watching in our ADD world, we quickly turn the channel or move on to the next image.

Had your morning tea yet Frank?

Yup.

Don't get jealous

Why should I?

if at all you and Frank talk bad about this clip....

Where did I "talk bad" about it? I actually like it.
They obvious wanted that nostalgic look and they pretty much nailed it. Cool - more power to them.
(I think the grading is a bit over the top though)

I was only questioning why folks think, that the typical Instagram Retro Look is suddenly "cinamatic".
Even old Hitchcock movies never had this sort of color back than, unless someone mishandled the negative.

Actually my first thought after the first few seconds of the clip was... I'd rather watch Madline Kahn's "De Duva"(1968)... now that was 'cinematic' because it was shot with Reel Cinematic(tm) film...

As for the latest trend of 'washedoutlook'... ugh... the other featurette I didn't like was the aspect ratio...

As a test clip for a mood... I think it worked...

But perhaps I missed something in the 60's... too much Timothy Leary or something... but films were not that 'pale'... There was a pastel look, Zeffirelli seem to corner the market on that...
for example:

"The Taming of the Shrew"(1967)

Taming%20of%20the%20Shrew.jpg

But even with the 'pastel' the ruffle on Burton's costume is 'an almost black, if not black'... and sets the contrast of the shot.

The problem with this sort of thing... is one's ability recall this sort of detail... and the fact that film has faded over the years, so when a film is 'restored', who knows what the original may have looked like... in subtle areas...

Maybe the critics should post their stuff as well..... Yeah the citroen clip was good but not a frother or a "must see" - it was good cinematic technique with interesting content, also a huge amount of set-up time, wardrobe, props, etc went into it. A simple idea done really well - congrats to him. Gotta love the scope of the GH3. Was it part of something else ??

I loved that Movie, amazing how the Military Vet who was a photographer spent the time in that film looking out his window and witnessing a murder, CLASSIC!

Personally I do not know why everyone hates the lifted blacks, the mood of the clip reminded me of old film not necessarily the color grade. Relax people there has been great projects shot with muted colors such as the video I posted. I just found it beautiful how everything was set up and how amazing the GH3 can look when taken into post and given this look.

It's nice, and I have no problem with slo-mo.

But I see a video graded like this and I yawn - and lens flare bores the tits off of me.
This look is so 'now' it hurts.

Every other video going up on Vimeo has a flat log look - "scandigrade" - and is choc full of shots with the camera pointing directly at the sun or strong light sources on purpose.
It's last year's equivalent of the shallow depth of field craze when the MKII came out.

Please share some of your work or any current work from someone independently to guide us in the correct location how these moving images in your opinion should look.
Thanks

Maybe we can agree on the following here:
This is NOT a must see.
About CINEMATIC most people also beg to differ.
But still, most people liked the video.

Just for the fun of it let`s see a "CINEMATIC MUST SEE" from our beloved DVXuser Macgregor from 2006:

https://vimeo.com/groups/indie/videos/870512

Now calculate DVX plus 35mm adapter vs GH3 plus lens. Good times we live in.

Nice link Spartacus - very impressive clip from - can you believe it 7 years ago. Can GH3 do that - hell yeah. You know, people post stuff and then guys like Fresno bag it and say it's this and that. They have NO idea of the monumental amount of time things like this take. "It's got lens flare'....shallow DOF is old.....blah blah". Put up or shut up I say. This guy did it and although it's not a "must see" I can really appreciate the value something like this has for us to shoot a bit harder/ a bit better and think about stuff a bit more.

I'm not bagging his style - the shots are lovely.
I'm just bored rigid of lens flare in every video I see these days (including pro shot stuff).

In fact, as much as I tire of this grading style, it least it is justified on this video because of the subject matter.

And what would I have 'no idea' of the time it takes?

I liked it. I think the director did exactly what he set out to do....a nostalgic look. Felt like a gangster movie. I didn't mind the slow motion either or it at least didn't throw me off. The flares helped the overall look as well.

Really? lol

This is what I thought....I could see the same scene in a Scorcese picture...I felt like the guy was about to do something bad or had just done something bad. I really liked the "cleaner" shots of him in the car sans the flare. I could do with a bit less of that, still thought it looked very good. Rather than say cinematic, I'll say it looked more artistic than many of the shots I've seen in recent big budget movies, some of which seem to pay no attention to letting a scene breathe.

Regardless of the arguments the OP is absolutely correct. It is in fact VERY VERY cinematic. An entire feature film could be executed with this look and it would be screen ready after some tweaks. For some reason though, when people disagree on this forum everybody's inner "know it all" comes out and they think they are experts on every camera, every technique. It's inevitable. If I were you I would stop posting to get comments from these still picture, fruit and commercial making pixel counters and shoot with what you got to avoid the huge waste of time justifying your feelings when you KNOW what you like to see. Also keep in mind. Theatrical releases have been acheived with the Panasonic AF100 (which I shoot with), The 5Dmk I, II, AND III, Canon C300, C500, and even B CAM with C100, the HVX200A, and even the aptly titled DVX100! They were released in the CINEMA yet were not considered CINEMATIC type cameras by the "know it alls". Are we seeing a pattern develop here? Don't fall for the sickness of allowing other people to frame your creative vision or opinions. You were right. When you uttered your first word, idea, selected your first camera. PERIOD. And I end this rant with some movies you should research before ever believing what some of these 4k worshipping camera experts say again.
