Beat Down Boogie Teaser Trailer

Hey all, just helping to promote the newest feature project by director Micah Moore, who directed the indie feature "Dogs of Chinatown" now being shopped for distribution. You can view the Dogs trailer here:

and its sites here: http://www.myspace.com/dogsofchinatown and http://allacesmedia.com/dogsofchinatown/

Anyway, Beat Down Boogie is like a cross between Snatch and Rumble In The Bronx, which you can check out its style in the trailer here:

Beat Down Boogie stars Eric Jacobus of "The Stunt People" from San Francisco, and has myself and Shawn Bernal from "Lazy Brown Productions" which is based in Chicago as supporting leads.

Beat Down is still in pre-production stages, and is merely looking to lock its budget down in hopes of being filmed this year. If you want to find updates and other things about Beat Down Boogie, visit their myspace at: http://www.myspace.com/beatdownboogie

Feel free to visit our sites as well!

Both are very well done, what was your budget on Dogs of China Town? Beat Down Boogie looks like it has potential to be very funny plus the name is great!

Keep it up manny,

Graham Robbins

Wow! That dude Beat looks like Shawn Bernal from that "Wages of Sin" movie. The resemblance is uncanny.

thanks! hopefully all goes through with the budget by this year, but if not, it should be for sure locked by next. I know Micah is working on another feature for his producer, Blake Faucette, which is a sci fi based one before doing anything with Beat Down.

Am I just a sucker for color correction, heavy style, and whatever tiffen mist style filter they applied or does the dogs of chinatown trailer look amazing for the HVX's capabilities? There are some shots where the lighting is a little flat that seem like they were saved by color correction, Eric flipping onto a table for instance, but the rest of it seems really impressive.

Big fan of the stunt people (and Zero gravity, what happened to them?) nice to see they're getting out there a bit more

Keep us updated on the release of Dogs of Chinatown. The action parts seem very well done and some of the cinematography looks good. It does have some shots that hurt it in terms of being able to guess that it's extremely low budget and I'm not a huge fan of straight action type movies (often there's not much story) but I'd definitely be interested to see how it all works.

The Beat Down Boogie stuff looks cool too and I especially like the Hip-Hop style elements (mix tape, etc.) incorporated. The title alone brings to mind for me one of my favorite Old School (and I mean really old school) B-Boy songs called "Boogie Down Bronx".

I'm definitely interested in following the progess of that one too.

Love that stuff! I'm a big fan of Dogs of Chinatown - now I have another movie to look forward to. I LOVE ACTION. I can't wait for the day when I can spend most of my time doing it. Don't trust myself now, because Action done bad is pretty awful.

But keep us informed and tell us all the tidbits - amounts spent, cameras used, locations, how long it took to shoot certain action sequences - in otherwords don't feel ashamed about spilling your guts. That's what message boards are all about! :)

Also anything I can do, please let me know - even if it's just coming up for a weekend to be a PA. I'm located in Atlanta and I think you guys are in NC - so it's not too bad. I also know a few good actors that I could send your way - I'm sure you have plenty, but I'll alway sgive a pub out for my folks who've worked so hard for me.

Exciting stuff.

I worked with Micah on Dogs of Chinatown (I wrote the score). Great guy, can't wait to see how Beat Down Boogie comes together. Cool!

Thanks again for all the comments fellas, I will keep ya updated on everything. For now, Dogs is still in talks for distro, but it has been sold in other countries such as Germany, Thailand, and Japan. Still looking for a US one though.

Beat Down is still in pre-pro, and will be put on hiatus until Micah has the time to start pitching it even more.

.

Blake told me about you Chris, and your work is great! I really liked what ya did on Dogs, keep it up!

I watched it and what grabbed my attention first was the shutter speed but ill write about it later cause what i liked are some fighting scenes ,also music is the kind of musi that i practiced break-dance to through 9 years so far so its nice to hear this and its a little surprise , what i absolutely like very very much from your trailer is the line with the grapping hook , it really adds character to the trailer ,for me film withour sense of humour is well... not really that enjoyable to watch. It really adds some spark to the film.Good stunts ,i dont quite like shutter speed on them and i will write about this right now , you use hvx right ? And i saw two titles here Corrado and No Greater Love ,they were shoot on hvx's too but they look filmic from beginning and i suspect its the shutter speed ,this might not be so important to some but its very important to eye , Corrado looks like a tv series and NGL looks like a real hollywood film ,i know that for fights and stunts its good to use high shutter to get crisp footage but it stops to look filmic at this point and kinda misses it in my opinion ,so... if i were you i would ask guys responsible for Corrado and NGL for their settings if theyre willing to share or they remember. Its good piece ,i like the trailer.BUT... this shutter.

I personally don't have a problem with the high shutter. It's what the director likes, and though I personally don't use such settings on my own films or fight scenes I direct (I only use high shutter for specific movements, sparingly), it's his style and I respect it. So long as the action is portrayed coherently and the movements make logical progression that is integrated with the characters/story, that's of more concern to me.

But I understand the point your trying to make.

Cool , but its the shutter angle what makes the movie look like a film ,theres something wrong to the eye if you look at the regular shooter speeds from vide cameras and its not acceptable as a film. After couple of seconds looking at film you can tell if its tv series ,film or soap opera... or just regular hvx shutter speed.
I was making experiments with 35mm adapter and shutter speeds so i was searching for answer why most videos with adapter dont look like actual film, theres something with motion blur and shutter angle to it.
