Bead Board - How to get the silver side

So bead board, highly useful styrofoam sheets with one side white, one side silver. You used to be able to find them at Home Depot for cheap. But now the silver side has words marked all over it and I'm struggling to create that clean silver side myself.

I tried Krylon Fusion Metallic Shimmer spray paint. Though despite being recommended by a hardware guy, and being good for plastic and more, it ate through the styrofoam. And also didn't look very shiny.

Does anybody have any idea on how I can achieve that look?

Also, thoughts on thickness of styrofoam? I went for the 1.5" cause it seemed sturdier in the wind.

just use special spray glue made for styro and put an aluminium paper on it.
you can also try to erase the word on the silver side with some isopropylic aclohol

Better yet, get some foam core at a fabric shop and go to home depot and buy some Reflectix and tape them together with gaff tape.

Or you could get some roscoe silver scrim or soft silver and then tape it onto the back of the beadboard with a white foamcore backing. That way you get the rigidness of the foamcore, but the soft bounce of the beadboard.

I'm sure if you went to your local rental house and asked them how much it would cost for them to cut you a 4 feet piece they'd either do it for free or cheap.

The best part of all this is it makes it look like your a pro. Always good!

Go to your local grip and electric operation and buy four feet of silver lame. You can just tape the edges and it will work fine.

Do they make Silver Lame in roll form? I always thought it was a soft good and that alone. Then again I just recently found an ultra bounce is not just a soft good, so I really wouldn't be surprised...Just couldn't find it on roscoes website...

Yes, I have a roll of it from Lee right next to me but I don't see a number on it and I don't have a swatch book from anybody handy, sorry, they're on the truck. Here's a link, not that you can tell much from it and Rosco has it too but I doubt either calls it lame. I'll have to look for their terms.

Grips make 4X4 beadboard reflectors with silver lame on one side for every show it seems like and where I go the house will give me one that came back on the truck if ask but I now prefer to make my own as they tend to get beaten up. I always sandwich in a piece of foamcore to strengthen the beadboard and keep it flat. I've also learned not to do that with foamcore that's black on one side (thought I was going to have a solid or negative fill) because they warp like crazy in the sun.

Ah, that's a great little thing to know. Looks like we're pretty much talking about the same thing though.

Oh man, if I'd seen this I wouldn't have said the same thing ;)

Windshield sun reflectors are also cheap and you can find them most anywhere in big box stores. The roll up and store well and large paper clips or small pony clamps work to attach them to foam core or anything else rigid.

Besides 4'X4' make one that's 2'X2' and 1'X1'. Verrry handy to whip in there just out of frame for a little fill on a closeup.

Yeah, I made a 2'x2' one as well, we always call them Pizza boxes. Good idea on the 1'x1'. Any fun nickname for those? :)
