If not it seems worthless.

How would htis be better/easier than using an H4n sepearately and syncing the sound?

Seems pretty inconvenient to me.
 
Yes, it can defeat the AGC.

And it's easier because it allows you to record good audio in-camera, if that's important to you.

So no, it's not inconvenient at all, depending on your needs.
 
ahh, i was just saying inconvient because of the large added size to the camera, and the neccesity of having the microphone somewhat close (in cables reach) to the camera.

I guess the no AGC is pretty cool though.
