This unit has all the functions of a conventional DXA-5Da, but has been modified from to accept a 12V external power source instead of the stock 9V battery. A power lead (with detachable plug for use with the included aftermarket 12V transformer) runs from the outside of the unit into a step-down converter, which reduces the 12V power to 9V. This allows one to use the BeachTek adapter without having to worry about using up 9V batteries - just plug it into a wall socket and go.
