Beachbox or Juicedlink for 5D

Hey guys,

Found waaaay too many threads about these two in the forums to even begin to pile through. In your opinion, which one is the best for using paired with the 5D. I always shoot double system sound, but my job is going to invest in a 5D as a B-cam and they will want to be able to run sound directly into the camera. What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for helping me do my homework.

As far as I know, the Beachtek stuff is noisier than the JL stuff, which is scary, because the JL stuff isn't exactly quiet. Get a Shure FP24 or a Sound Devices Mixpre and a padded cable instead.

Thanks Chris. I think the last time I used a beachtek was in the pre-DVX days, and I remember having to ground it out with a metal pin to eliminate buzzing....kinda scared me away from the whole brand. I'll look into the sound devices, and forward the info to my bossman.

Thanks again!

The hot setup is that preamp/mixer (they are the same) with a padded cable and camera gain set to about 7 steps up from the bottom (or thereabouts).

You can't match the audio level meters which would be ideal, because it's preferred to use as little camera gain as possible without sending too hot a signal into the camera.

And, be aware that there will possibly be a 2 frame difference in sync between sound and picture.
