Beach

Cute, thanks for sharing. Did you ever make it into the shot, or always behind the camera? What beach was this?

Sheesh, reminds me to get off my duff & get our family's beach trip edited too. Thanks for the motivation/reminder. 'cept, I won't be able to post it here, as I didn't lug the big ol' DVX for that ... just shot it with my little JVC that I use for my deck.

i filmed a lil at the beach b4 but I wouldn't recommend it, the dvx fears the sea air(and so does any other type of electronics). Speaking of which, I need to get my DVX cleaned :(

Yep...a day at the beach with the DVX could be a little over the line for me. I also have a little JVC that I take fly fishing with me, which also doubles as my deck. It goes places and does things that I just couldn't do with the DVX. I probably have 500 hours on the JVC and I've become quite fond of it, I will surely cry when it dies.

Oh trust me, that little JVC of mine has taken on some serious wear & tear, and keeps on going strong. I've gotten it wet twice, with sea water, trying to get a certain high risk shot ... shorts out instantly, but after several hours of drying & getting the water out to the best of my abilities, it's still going strong with no signs of damage ... stuff I would NEVER do with the DVX which cost 10+ times more.

yeah well, I did the unthinkable and took it to the beach. twice actually.. and FELL into the sand. got sand and grain into it. it's probably still in there somewhere... i dunno. i took a chance. the zoom ring was a little rough in spinning after that day but it disappeared after cleaning. ... its just such a wonderful place to shoot. but i learned my lesson.

is this post serious? I've spent 6 months shooting on "the beach" with my DVX. I didnt have any problems, but then again being a professional helps.

Well, that may just be the most condescending thing I've ever seen posted here, and there's been a few.

Anyway, the DVX is a lot tougher than people give it credit. I've also shot at the beach, and the camera ended up getting more than a little battered by saltwater, since we were dealing with big crashing waves on rock outcroppings and had to be out about knee-deep. Of course, I also had no qualms about mounting mine on the bumper of a car speeding down a desert road, or shooting with my Nikons non-stop in pouring rain. Never had a problem that didn't fix itself after a few hours of drying out.

Anyway, nice little piece. I find myself enjoying these mood clips more and more, particularly some of the showcase ones done on the 35mm adapters.

oh yeah, Envision, I'm glad my piece helped you to remember to do your project. lol.

glad you enjoyed it doug. I think I make alot of mood pieces... you just reminded me how I'm not really trying anything else... when I should.

Nice clip.

I also have filmed at the beach, never had a problem.

I go to car meets late at night a few nights a week and it's always misty and foggy with lots of moisture and the dvx works right though it.

Yeah, that was a pretty ass-hat comment to make ... glad you already mentioned it Doug.

I just found out today that we'll be heading to the CA beaches this May for a weddding that will take place for a friend of ours. Of course I'm expected to film, and I won't be able to get away with just doing it on the little JVC.

I'll also be using a 35mm adapter, which should play wonderfully for wedding shots.

I've been a "professional" photographer all my life in both film and stills, and being a "professional" caused more damage to my equipment than preventing problems, it just all depends on who's paying the bills.

That is so out of line with the spirit of this board.

The video made me want to trade in all the snow here for some sand and sun...
