SHORT: Be My Baby

Great stuff, it's nice to see people setup space, the shot at 00:47, where we are just introduced to the sound first and then the visual is very effective and really set me up for the tone of the film. It's a shame about the stuff in the airport, but as soon as you're in the house, the shakiness of the camera and clumsy framing in the airport is forgiven. I wouldn't worry about it too much. After thinking about it, another negative critic could be that the grandma/mother is a tad weak on her first line delivery - BUT THIS IS SO PICKY AND MINOR. Yum 05:42, more sound design with interesting compositions. I'm enjoying this. Very well done indeed, the reveal when she says, "shutup" is perfectly timed + has a really good impact. Fade out could be longer on that scene, to milk the drama.. But i understand these are the things that get cut when you need to shave off them seconds :) The jump of the line doesn't quite work for me on the slap. I think it's more to do with grading and the sound changes though. Was it radio mic'd? When they are both sat down on the sofa, i kept looking at the mother's mouth (or the sliiight snippet i could see) when she spoke, and it just isn't synched up.. You could probably blow up the image by like 5% to get rid of her though. At this point, i couldn't help but think to myself, why would the girl know what a late note looked like (as it was implied that she did), if the mom was so overbearing and disappointed at a grown woman smoking a cigarette/flirting? At 09:10 or so, the low framerate shot, you might want to try cutting it down smaller. I'm not sure if it quite works for the duration it shows. Up until 15:01 it's amazing and really gripping. I heard a crossover from two mics, and also some kind of noise in the background like someone talking who shouldn't have been ahah. The low framerate works better at 16:19. You should be really proud of this, it's really good! The things i've commented on are just minor things. It's a really strong, well paced, well directed film. I felt for her character and I had a really good sense of space throughout.

Thanks for the comments. Just out of curiosity, how old did you take the main girl to be? Your comment ", if the mom was so overbearing and disappointed at a grown woman smoking a cigarette/flirting" makes me think you read her as older than intended. The biggest thing I wasn't happy with was the fight scene. We only had half a day to shoot it and I would have rather been able to spend the whole morning lighting and rehearsing the scene.

Sorry i didn't notice this reply, yeah i think i assumed she was at least 18. It may just have been me going on face value. I don't think it ruins it at all though.
