Be Kind Rewind

Did anyone else see this yet? I went on Saturday night and had a great time. I had very high expectations, as I have really loved all of Gondry's previous work, but this one didn't quite live up to my hopes. It is very, very funny (and includes one of the best visual gags I can ever remember seeing), but the story is a little thin for my taste. Danny Glover and Jack Black are really excellent, and Mos Def is good, but not great.

It does have that homemade craft charm that make's Gondry's work so magical, and it's worth seeing just for that. They do explain how Jack Black becomes magnetized/de-magnetized, and it is totally ridiculous, but didn't bother me at all. If you don't care for movies about making movies, this might not be for you.

I do want to see this. But since you are near NYC, you should go check out this fun thing at the Deitch Project. My GF and I went this weekend:

You can run around and make your own little movies and then they leave them there for others to "check out" of the "video store." Lot of fun. And Gondry was there when we went on Sat, taking his own photos and videos of everyone making THEIR videos. It was pretty cool to see this installation basically pushing the spirit in the movie into the real world.

They have a bunch of sets, and each has dials for making the set "daytime" or "nighttime," usually by changing a background video or photo out the window. There are many props and costumes to choose from. Pretty fun.

eternal sunshine is my favorite movie ever....I bought science of sleep before even seeing it because I figured there was no way I would be disappointed..and of course I somewhat was.

But I was even more disappointed with this movie. I don't remember what I expected, but it just didn't live up to the potential. The home made effects were nice. I didn't really like Black's character at all. Mos Def was decent. It was an ok movie.

I heard about this a couple of weeks ago - didn't know anybody who had gone though. Maybe I will take my lady friend this weekend. Did you make a movie? I must check it out if so.

I gotta say the trailer makes this movie look terrible and the idea seems very pathetic, but I like most of Gondry's work so I'll give it a try. I think "Human Nature" is SO underrated.
