GH3 Be careful with your OLED display!

Hopefully you all can learn from my mistake. I put my GH3 into my camera bag without turning the OLED display around to face the interior of the camera. Part of my rig must have moved around hitting the camera when I picked up the bag. Result: cracked OLED display that no longer works! Off to the Panasonic Service Center.

Ouch ... Bad. Hope you get if fixed under warranty. Was it a big 'hit' or some small bump?

Not sure. I just pulled it out of my bag today and noticed a cracked glass pattern -- it's weird since you can't feel it, it appears to be under whatever the outside glass layer is. Regardless, it doesn't output anything. It'll be at the Panasonic Service center in Texas tomorrow morning! Hopefully, there's not a long wait for a replacement OLED display.

ouch sorry to hear. this is always a possibility with any display left in the open. i've had close calls with my belt buckle and the screen rubbing against each other whilst hanging it off my neck

Has anyone with a GH3 applied the kind of protective film that people use for phone screens? I wonder if that would offer some useful protection?

i think the only thing a screen protector would do is protect it from scratches. it wont protect from hard impact.

OLED screen protector?

OLED screen protector?

I'm thinking about a screen protector like what I use on my iPhone. I applied this to my GH2 and it doesn't impair the touch screen functions in any way. Just wondering if the OLED requires a different type of protector.

While its at the service centre, ask them to replace the screen with a non OLED one so the info doesn't have to disappear after 10 seconds :-P
