It doesn't say whether they're moving from Apple, Avid or something else. I certainly couldn't find any mention of "abandon" on the post you've linked to or even the related article.
CS5 Production Suite has proven quite popular and Premiere Pro has surged ahead compared to the modest FCP developments.
I dare say CS5, though slightly more expensive, includes more of the tools needed for basic end to end production than FCP (ie Photoshop and Illustrator.) After Effects can do vastly more than Motion, even if on occasion a practiced hand can get basic motion graphics work done with Motion much more quickly.
More important than 64-bit support would be better multi-threading but in that area I have no knowledge if CS5 is better.
I do agree that Apple's cone of silence does continue to hurt many of the professional customers who championed Apple, for better or worse, even when there was little left to champion.
I switched to FCP from Premiere and I wouldn't hesitate to switch back (though we have seats of both).
