Battlestar Galactica

haha. my heart sank when they left New Caprica so quickly. I was ready for a full season in the vein of German occupied France. show never really recovered after that.

I do have to agree with you on that one. They could've taken some of the slower episodes from the second half of season 3 (The Woman King for example) and spent nearly the entire first half of season 3 on New Caprica.

This last mutiny episode was pretty intense, but as Zak was bummed about them not staying on New Caprica, I'm feeling the same way about their sudden departure from Earth. I want to know more about what happened there. Plus, it makes sense that they would want to do some more investigating beyond Starbuck and Leoben walking around a bit.

And I hate to ask the obvious, but have any of you been thinking the same thing I am after they found Earth? Basically, that there is this pristine habitable planet called Kobol sitting out there. Yes it is far away, but why not try to go there? Yes, Cavil and his Cylon army are out there, but that won't change wherever they end up going.

I'm kinda worried that they are not going to give ample time to Starbuck's and Baltar's storylines. Baltar seems to have run his course so far, and I have no idea how the heck they're going to explain Starbuck either. I hate to say it, but one could argue that the end of season 4.0, with them all standing on the beach could've worked as a nice open ended conclusion to the entire series.

Having said all that, I still love the show, and am excited to see what else develops during these last few episodes.

Well it's happened. I am officially more excited for FRINGE every week than BSG. Yes, it's fallen that far for me...

I don't know what show you're watching. I thought last night had all sorts of ass-kickery in it.

Same here. I really enjoyed the whole episode. Granted, it seemed like they rushed a few scenes. The overall pace felt a bit too fast. I'm guessing this episode might be one with an extended cut when season 4.5 hits DVD.

SPOILER ALERT

It was good to see Baltar a little more. I missed seeing his character, except for the very brief scenes in the first two episodes. Zarek's character arc ended really authentically. I found him to be a fascinating character throughout the series. The scene with the chief being caught exiting the air vent by the other officer was really great and unexpected. I really thought Tyrol was going to die.

One question though... when Tyrol is in the engine room, after he disables the FTL, he looks up at the wall and sees something that at first looked like giant claw marks, or maybe some sort of fluid leaking from behind the wall. Anybody else have any idea what that stuff was? He had an "oh frak, something's wrong" reaction to seeing whatever it was he saw. My best guess is maybe he really fraked up the FTL, and next week we'll find out the Galactica is dead in the water, so to speak.

Now with Gaeta, Zarek, and the whole mutiny out of the way, I hope we start to get some answers as to what happened on Earth, as well as some of the other mysteries of the whole story arc.

END SPOILERS

Well maybe that's the problem. I didn't even bother watching. Just had no interest. Is it really that good? Really?

Yes. Past two episodes have been great. Less moping, lots more action. Two major characters were executed, as well as a room full of minor ones. And Laura Roslin screaming "I'M COMING FOR ALL OF YOU!" made my nipples hard.

Yeah, but on fringe, you'll never guess what happened. A dude's head mysteriously exploded, then it turns out Walter was working on a head-exploding experiment in the 60s, and he's surprised that they now have ice cream with nuts and bananas in it. And then the bad guys got away, but not before a knowing smile from Blair Brown.

Shocking, huh?

All right, based on your hard nipples, I will watch the last two. But if they do not kick serious ass, I will NEVER trust your nipples again.

Whoa, I think you've just ruined BSG for me. Now whenever Roslin is onscreen my suspension of disbelief will be shattered by visions of manly nipples.

Hey, Batutta brought up nipples. Though I think the fact that they get hard at all, should have been added to the list of things he didn't want us to know...

Okay, my faith in your nipples remains intact. These were definitely the two best episodes in a long long time. Not so much for the action, but because someone was acting positive. I think it was just the massive gloom that was getting me down. It seemed like Roslin's cancer was the GOOD news for a while there...but to see people pulling it out and taking action...I think it's what carried the first season. Even though it was often hopeless, they kept trying.

Though I have to say, I was rooting for an all out Adama/Tigh killing spree...

Same here. The end of the 3rd episode with them in the loading bay hunkering down for battle was great. I'm hoping for an extended cut of these past two episodes when the last part of the series hits DVD, hopefully with some more action.

Now that this mutiny/coup story arc is over, I hope that they start to delve into the remaining mysteries hanging over the show. I also wonder if and when Cavil and the other Cylons are going to return.

I've been very disappointed with this final season. I don't feel excited to watch the new episodes anymore--after all this time invested, I just want to see how it ends.

These last two episodes were such a mixed bag. I really liked Gaeta and Zarek's arcs. I believe the show is at its best when simply dealing with people having to make tough decisions in impossibly tough situations. Especially in this case, when the mutineers' grievances were so valid.

Throughout the show's entire run, Adama and Roslin have just paid lip service to the government, only acknowledging its existence when it suited them. One might argue that in their situation, it's really the only way they can survive, but then why bother having a government at all? Adama and Roslin do whatever they want, and to hell with anyone who disagrees. It's bad enough that the people have been led to an irradiated wasteland, but then to top of it off their vision/scripture-loving president just shuts down, abandons her post and responsibilities, but won't give up the seat! How am I supposed to root for Adama and crew and care about about them taking back control when they've done nothing to earn it?

I would hope that the events in these last two episodes leads to some serious introspection from the main characters, but I really doubt it. Seems that next week we're back to the mythology/final cylon mumbo-jumbo, which I could really care less about.

Sorry about the rant guys, but I had to vent.

I think the whole thing of Roslin shutting down was done to not only take her character further, but that it was an unexpected way to develop her. We all expect her to bounce back, but then she doesn't. She does seem to be getting back some of her original fire towards the end of the last episode.

As for the whole final 5 and the mythology/religious stuff, I hope they start to give some answers to that now. To me, the show needs to do the following things to end on a satisfying note:

1. Finish the final 5 story arc.
2. Show them re-establishing some order after the recent coup.
3. Explain what Starbuck is, and how she died on Earth but was resurrected.
4. Give us some idea of where Cavil and the other Cylons are, and what they are going to do.
5. Answer the mysteries of Earth and the Cylon bodies found there. I assume this might be the big final reveal of the series, sometime in the last episode.
6. Show somebody looking for another habitable planet. Athena in a Raptor? At least give her character something to do.
7. Answer or show the significance of Helo and Sharon's hybird human-cylon daughter. There is also Tigh and Six's baby still in the womb.

By the description of the next episode, and with the writers killing people off like its going out of style, I wouldn't be surprised if Anders ends up dying from his gunshot wound.

With Dualla already gone, if Anders dies, the door for the Starbuck-Lee Adama relationship will probably be opened again.

My fear is that they are going to spend a whole episode on some mass trial of the conspirators from the recent coup. I hope that is not the case though. The good news is that the series finale is supposed to be longer than the normal episode length. In an interview Ron Moore said maybe a 3-hour season finale.

But he's a clyon, and while different from the others, who's to say the final five don't ressurect somewhere? Next week's tease show's Tigh's wife resurrecting, so the final five can come back.

I thought Roslin's reaction and subsequent breakdown after the gut-punch that was finding earth was justified and rang true to her character. What I didn't like was that with the fate of the human race still in the balance, the mood of the fleet as it was, she and Adama thought it would be a-ok to just hang out and forget leading and reassuring the people of the fleet. It's that kind of arrogance that lead to the mutiny. Which is fine, it's a situation that evolved from the mistakes of well-meaning, but flawed people. My issue is that the writers went to great lengths to demonizing the mutineers, so that we would root for Adama & Co. to prevail. It was forced and cheap, like the obvious fake out with Baltar's vision of Adama being executed.

I agree, but where the final 5 resurrect to is anybodies guess. Maybe he resurrects far away or with Cavil's Cylons? Starbuck would then think he's dead for good.

I'm curious as to how they're going to explain Ellen Tigh's long absence after her death, unless she resurrected really far away from the fleet.

====================SPOILERS===============================

Ugh, the final five are lame. Who cares?

The more I think about the last two eps, I'm actually quite disappointed. I think they could have turned this into a whole season, or at least a big part of a season...the civil war. Instead, it's kind of new Caprica all over again. One episode, insurrection, the next, everything's back to normal...

And they could have gone into some outright mind-bending possibilities:

Imagine Roslin, operating from the base ship, sending in Cylon Centurians to wipe out the traitors and take control of Galactica. Or being forced to launch raiders against Galactica vipers to fight tooth and nail to the death. Seems like some great chances in there to blow all our minds...I remember the mini-series when the six reached into the baby carriage and actually snuffed the baby. And I thought: "Oh, you're going to take me somewhere I've never been. I'm IN." Not so much anymore.

It felt pretty neatly tied up and rather quickly...

I guess I'm armchair quarterbacking, but it didn't take much thought to start to see just how much cooler this could have been.

they seem so good at making the sequences crank. Like on New Caprica when Adama jumps Galactica into the atmosphere, launches his vipers and jumps out again. That was some Sullenberger shi* right there. But it's kind of like these exciting scenes hit you in the gut, but then you wake up and go, actually those episodes weren't all that great...

That's actually a really good idea. I think this could've been a great alternate way to take the narrative in a different direction. Kinda like the season 2 episodes Valley of Darkness where the Cylon Centurions got onboard, but with a dash of a "I can't believe they're doing this" moment at the end of Pegasus when Adama and Cain wage war on each other.

Add to that, instead of Adama and Tigh being lead to safety by Lee, Starbuck, and Tyrol; how about Baltar's followers hiding the old wardogs somewhere in the ship? Instead of having Baltar escape with Roslin to the Basestar, he could've stayed on the Galactica. His people wouldn't want to harbor the Admiral and Tigh, but then Baltar would persuade them to do so.

Meanwhile, as Gaeta's cronies are searching for them, Roslin and the Cylons start their assault. Adama, Tigh, and Baltar are running through the labyrinthian corridors and bowels of the ship while the whole thing buckles and rumbles from the Cylon missiles pelting the hull.

If they really wanted to make things crazy, in the heat of the battle, Cavil shows up with a couple fully functional Basestars that jump in and surround the fleet.
