Battlestar Galactica

Strong start to the third season. It held a creepy, uneasy, edge-of-your seat tenor throughout.

And continuing the tradition of directly referencing movies, this time, it was "The Great Escape."

There was so much that simply struck me as being indistinguishible from film, I wonder if any self-styled "experts" would know for sure that it's 24p HD. The photography is fantastic.

was it two hours...i rushed home from a gig thinking i'd catch it, but i started watching a little after 10pm MST and at 11pm it went off...my local paper had the time slot down as 10pm to 12am on scifi??????????

Yep -- it was 2 hours. 9pm - 11pm here on the east coast, then an encore presentation immediately following that.

I thought it was great -- so cinematic. Great opening with glimpses of what certain characters were up to. Awesome shot of the Cylons meeting with Baltar that just kept panning to show multiple copies of the same models, no cuts. Wow. They packed so much into this season premiere. Definitely worth the wait. And yes, excellent Great Escape reference, even down to the order to get out and stretch their legs a bit before continuing. It just makes you cringe even more as it confirms what's about to happen.

Now everyone lean in close so I can whisper: John Hudson is a Cylon!

I have cybernetic lemon juice:

dangnabit...that's why i hate my local paper...that's not the first time. it happens almost daily. anyway have any of you watched the webisodes???

It really felt like watching a film. I was really surprised how they handled Lee's storyline. I was worried last season that the series might be deflating a little but it's just getting better.

just in case...

battlestar webisodes

whew caught it yesterday morning and another replay last night...by the way is universal HD showing it before sci-fi??? because i was checking the guide and at 6pm (8pm EST) UNI-HD had part 2.

DJ, I think it looked good too, but I'm watching in SD and some shots look so blown out. How does it look in HD? Are the blow outs purely a style choice or am I a loser for watching SD still?

Don't know. Sci-Fi doesn't broadcast it in HD. Will have to wait until the episode hits Universal HD, next year (probably).

I think the blowouts are stylistic, though.

loved the first episode, BUT
who didn't laugh the first time they saw fat Lee's face?
Just watched it. That's the best episode of BSG I've seen so far. Pretty incredible. If you haven't seen the show, rent the first two seasons and miniseries. You're missing out BIG.
