Battlestar Galactica

I don't know about you, but my SD feed of the Sci-Fi Channel looks like streaming internet video. Just horrible. Having seen the HD rebroadcasts on UniversalHD, the blow outs are an intentional choice, but look much better in HD as you can see more detail in the highlights.

i'm coming to the whole BSG thing late, but this might be the best series i've ever seen. if i was to produce a television series, it would be like this. they are doing just about everything you can do with a show like this and still make it commercially viable. i'm truly blown away by the content -- spirituality, religion, existentialism... on the sci-fi channel?!?!?!?! WTF?

over new years, my girlfriend and i watched seasons 1 and 2 from 12/31 to 1/02 (we had little else to do). tomorrow Sci-Fi is rebroadcasting a marathon of the first half of season 3 which i have not seen yet. but having checked out the webisodes, this spin on "vichy-france" looks like another great turn for the series.

anyway, looking forward to BSG overload tomorrow and then picking up with season 3.5 just like everyone else. i read an interview saying that this season's cliffhanger will yet again, push the series into a completely new direction. i'd expect nothing less.

FAV MOMENT SO FAR... when lee adama was floating in space, watching the space battle and wanting to die.

I hated the ending of SE2 and think that is one of the problems with why I feel SE3 has sucked pretty hard so far.

Glad to see other BSG fans out there. Got my older sister to watch it as well and she's not even a sci-fi fan, lol. She saw the whole first season on DVD and can't wait for my B-day where I'll get the second season.

I love how it touches upon political and moral issues while throwing in kick ass action. By far my favorite television show.

What do you guys think of the second half of this season? Some of the shows have been lacking. The whole thing between Lee and Kara I honestly couldn't care about. It just bugs me, but then again it's just as complicated as some real life relationships can be. They wouldn't do something like that on Star Trek, that's for sure.

I guess that's why I like it. They take risks and treat it more like a Drama story and a film, and not some sci-fi show. Sometimes those risks don't pay off, but more often than not, it does.

Although they're touching more upon the eye of jupiter in the show this weekend. I'm guessing the final shows of the season will have to do with the eye of jupiter. I can't wait to see it.

I'm also wondering who the final 5 cylons are...

I'm lukewarm on any episode that could seemingly be dropped in at any point in any season. but I have faith in the gods that this sunday we're in for a big turn of events with the 'maelstrom' episode.

My least favorite episode recently would have to be the one about Kara and Lee and the Boxing. I was dissapointed. Felt like nothing big happened. It was only for Kara and Lee fans (I'm assuming the girls that find Lee hunky). I mean I like Kara, and I like Lee, but I don't like the relationship.

Anyone else ever used "frak" accidentally? Not that I have... well okay a few times...

I thought the boxing episode was incredible. No, nothing big happened, i.e. **** blowing up, but from the standpoint of interpersonal drama, it was like an a-bomb going off. This to me is what elevates the show above most sci-fi, is that it's as good at making the character drama compelling as it is at the big story ideas and space battles. I actually have liked this season more than last. After the breakneck pace of season one, I thought season two did a lot of stalling before the last episode, which was a total mind ****. This season started off great, and it's slowed down a little but if feels like a more natural arc. Looks like things will heat up again this Sunday.

Well, there are only a few more episodes until the finale -- things better whip up soon.

I thought the arc was going to find its stride after the Eye of Jupiter episode -- but it settled back into meandering for a few more episodes. Like Zak says, if it can be dropped into any season, any time, it's not helping the arc.

I didn't particularly care for the touchy-feely way everything ended in the mutiny episode. The Chief led his crew in a mutiny; there should have been permanent repercussions, but apparently there weren't. THAT is a "Star Trek" ending.

Turned off the last episode, its getting like a freaking soap opera. Bleh.

Where are all of the battles/killing/subterfuge.

Writers definitely dropped the ball.

Not convinced on the Cylon thing . . . and I would stop watching the show if she were, because it would have crossed the line into stupid.

So they have a few cheap drama episodes without the huge effects, no biggie to me as long as the show doesn't pull a Farscape on me. SFC pulled the plug on that at the climax of the story arc and I vowed never to watch a another SFC series ever again. Unfortunately BSG is impossible for me not to watch, lol.

Lost, Prison Break, 24, Grey's Anatomy...

and now Battlestar Galactica? My list of shows that have jumped the shark is getting too long. I used to love BSG.

Oh well, at least there's still Heroes.

I don't watch BSG live, maybe that's why I don't mind these "sucky" episodes. I watch it either via I tunes or recently using "on demand" on Comcast. I supposed if my entire life were centered around the live viewing experience and it was a slow episode I'd be more resentful about the opportunity cost of the time spent. BSG sucking is an oxymoron. You can't expect every episode to cost 14 million to make.

Well they did what they did last season. The writers like to explore all the side stories as well. So in the middle of each season they take that opportunity to tell those stories. Which is why the middle of seaons 2 was kinda so-so, same for season 3.

I hear the straight to DVD movie is going to be a bunch of side stories as well which actually interests me. I enjoy these side stories, sort of gives us a small view into their world, how it effects everyone and not just the president and admiral.

But these new episodes seem good IMO. I really liked Maelstrom, and although the recent one was a bit too much about lawyers, I still enjoyed it.

I love this show because it really gets into everything that a civilization would be dealing with when running for their lives trying to survive and find a home. Most Sci-Fi, if given this storyline, would mainly focus on the fighting more than anything.

Last night I learned that Anders shops at the Ralph's supermarket at 3rd and La Brea. He was off his crutches (good for him!), but wearing a Von Dutch shirt (bad, bad for him).

He's CAG! He's not CAG! He's CAG! He's not CAG! He's CAG! He's not CAG!

Over the arc of the series, it starts to strain credibility some.
