Battleship... the movie... why?

If you haven't heard by now, Battleship... yes the board game... will be turned into a movie. It's also involves aliens.

Now when I first heard about the movie I thought 'why?' and then 'how?'

I mean there's nothing to Battleship. It's a game. It's not like they can make a movie from monopoly, or snakes and ladders. So is it to attract fans? Fans of what!? There's no story to the game, it's just a board game! Nothing to be a fan of except sinking your friend's battleship!

Then I wondered how. The main audience for a board game would logically be kids. But to make an adaptation you would have to make a war film about people trying to shoot each other in the water, which isn't very kid friendly.

But now there's aliens...

I'm losing hope in humanity...

I forgot that it had Rhianna as well..

You know who they are as a star when they decide to make their film debut in a board game adaptation...

I can't seem to find an embeddable clip, but game based movies were better when Robot Chicken did it. They proved it could be done for anything.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but Ridley Scott is making a Monopoly movie.

A board game movie?!? I can't imagine the premise would have ANYTHING to do with the board game... this sounds like a Toys/Action figure/Video Game money grab! I can think of no other reason to attach a movie to a board game.

At least GI Joe built a story (albiet a lame one) around characters and tech from the action figures... But it was essentially a stylized kids movie with a similar objective (IMO), that is to revive the GI Joe brand and action figure/video game profitability.

@ OP: This is my favorite thread title since: Fighting - Laziest movie title of all time!
:grin::grin::grin:

yeah, i think i know the ending lol. the last line has rhianna saying something like, "Damn, you sank my battleship". Cut to Chris Brown smiling. The end.
