Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

That was an interesting choice of compostion. It was well lit and exposed and I cannot even wait for this game. BF2 is gonna rock.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

While BF2 sounds like a great game (I am totally addicted to Enemy Territory, for instance), I have criticisms of the choices you've made for the interview.

The subject is dynamic and comfortable on camera, so I don't understand why you had him look 70-80 degrees off axis. 20-30 degrees from looking right at the camera is the norm here. I just don't feel like I am engaged.

Secondly, if I were doing this, I would have green-screened him and put a soft moving background that was reminescent of WWII imagery behind him, and maybe done some short L-cuts to footage of the game in progress.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

I agree with Speedbump's comment about the subjects degree of axis. It's good though that he's comfortable on camera, that's not easy to accomplish.

I think your interview would benefit with some actual screenshots and footage from the game. The interview feels static because you're going from a stationary shot to a title on black. Ask him if you can shoot footage of the game to insert.

If you can and it's possible you might want to reshoot the interview. If you just took notes on what he talked about you could probably reshoot pretty quickly.

I think your titles could use some pumping up. The music in the background is good and appropriate and flashy titles could pump up the piece a bit. If you're using After Effects, Trapcode Shine is a great plugin for adding some flash to titles. (As long as it's used in moderation)

Overall, good job on the interview.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

I agree that the eyeline and framing is wonky - suffers from the old "head in the middle of frame".

but who cares, I was listening to the interview - this game is going to ROCK!

anyone here play "desert combat"?
that is the "mod" of BF1942 that is essentially being updated to become BF2

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

Hell yeah; BF 1942, DC, Road to Rome and VIetnam (BF V is weak though). Lately, I have been junkying on Call fo Duty - Expansion

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

Definitely would love to see some footage of game play. I'm in high anticipation for this game to come out. I haven't really checked any release dates but I hope it's out before I leave for the Marines. If I have to go through bootcamp thinking about it the whole time, lol... not that I'll have much time to think about it... I might go crazy.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

you did not use the rule of thirds in composing that shot, and it shows.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

Thanks for all the comments guys. Couple of things, this is a 3 part interview specifically for the EA Battlefield newsletter. The 2nd and 3rd part reveal more info about the game and are a bit longer.

After shooting this, and seeing it in the editing room, I realized that I could have done several things better, most importantly, the angle in which it was shot and I would have liked to have gone closer to Scott's face. Game footage would have been a terrific addition as well, but the team working on the game couldn't get me anything new since they're so slammed. Sometimes you have to work with what you have.

I have a 4 part interview with boxer Bernard Hopkins (for our upcoming Fight Night game) coming up and it's much better. We really get in this guys face and his passion about the sport is amazing.

I'm still learning how to use this amazing camera and all the techniques behind shooting it.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

I too found the composition strange. His head is dead centre of the frame and his eyeline seems off.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

Hey Zombie!

I get that newsletter!  ;D  :D

Although, that comp would not have been my choice; it being an 'e-letter' for an upcoming videogame I think it works.

My .02

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

hmm...i dont mind the guy looking off screen so much. would have been cool to have a more interesting background other then that wall.

Re: Battlefield 2 Interview Shot With a DVX100A

when you have him in the center you create dead space around him and the whole shot becomes uninteresting. i would reccomend, if you want it centered, to go in closer and keep the top of this head near the top of the frame, giving him a bit of headroom, but not enough so that the feeling of dead space is given.
