Battle: Los Angeles

Sony's actually taking legal action against Skyline.

battle: Los Angeles and Skyline both promise a showdown between mankind and evil extra-terrestrials bent on destroying us –– but before that happens, it appears we have to deal with another conflict first –– a potential legal battle between the two projects.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has their gaggle of lawyers investigating legal action against Skyline filmmakers Greg and Colin Strause. The issue is that the Strause brothers own a special effects company named Hydraulx and they were hired to do visual effects work on battle: Los Angeles –– and they forgot to mention they were working on their own alien invasion film at the same time.

From what I've read, it sounds like we should all consider taking legal action against Skyline.

Now THAT is funny.

It seems that Skyline was an efx house who made a reel then decided to try to make a real movie out of it.

of course, the same can be said for a lot of the major motion pictures put out there by large studios as well.

Movies like this frequently come out in pairs. Volcano/Dante's Peak; Armageddon/Deep Impact; etc., etc.

Yes, they do...but I think the issue here is that the FX house started work on Battle Los Angeles, then that same FX house decided to rush out a similar quickie production with a rival studio while continuing work on the other production.

Im in this Film.. I worked as a Stand in and Did Stunts, Then Jonathan Liebsman gave me a Day player Role in it as a LAPD officer.. This Film is Going to Be SICK

I think they both look incredibly lame...but that's just me, LOL.

Battle La is Mostly Live Action with VFX.. Skyline is mostly if not 80% VFX// If you see an M16 fire ,the Flash from the Gun is Real not AE composite if you see a bus Blow up it Blows up.. Plus the US MIlitary was 100 percent behind the film,, We shot a lot at Barksdale AFB down in Louisiana.

the Aliens are Cooler than Skyline, But skyline Borrowed a lot to say the Least

This doesn't convince me. I'm all for doing things live action, film the real stuff, but what I care about is story.

Why is the international title: World Invasion: Battle LA? Just sounds like a mouthful...

Something to do with another Guy out there making a Spin off of the Story and Calling it THE BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES, and So he had the Copywrite internationaly, So they Changed it.. World Invasion: battle LA//// Its almost a B movie straight to DVD title but the Film is going to Be Good. They did a Lot of rewrites, and it has taken well over a year to get it looking good.. We shot it back in late 09.

For a lawsuit, maybe not, but there is something more sleazy and incestuous about the situation than just competing productions.
It definitely seems like a major conflict of interest, though legally it depends on what was signed between the two companies.
