F55: Battery systems for the F5 and F55

I would be interested in hearing about how people that currently have an F5 or F55 on order are planning to power their cameras. I am pretty heavily invested in Anton Bauer technology so I just stick with their systems.

Same boat with F 55, just going with currnet stock of v-mount 96whrs and buying one new Sony battery for going just a little more compact when needed. Maybe picking up a dual mount for running RAW.

If you aren't using the Sony recorder there is a 4 pin XLR connector on the back of the camera. If you go the adapter route from V-lock to A/B, B&H sells a couple of different kinds, from what I recall. Less than $200.

Don't forget if you put a lens of any substance on the camera you are going to be front heavy. I know people are thinking about abandoning the gak but battery hangers are good as ballast.

We have a V-lock to Anton Bauer or V-lock that provides power distro that is switched by the camera power switch. P-Tap and Lemo 2 pin with 24v option on Fischer 3pin. It also has a hidden 4pin XLR input so that you use the same distro when you switch from on board battery to external power. Without that little trick, you lose accessory power if you plug directly into camera 4 pin.

Sony has new and exciting lithium batteries, but if you already have an investment in AB, it's hard to switch. I don't see any reason you should. Even if you didn't have our box, a regular adapter is all you need. The F55 is really power efficient compared to previous high-end cameras like F65 and Alexa.

How much is your v-lock to gold mount?

Price TBA next week, but it will be well under $50,000 for sure. ;-)

To stay in the good graces of DVXuser, I can't say officially. Keep an eye on our website.

I have some brand new large Red batteries in the other room. Are these totally usable with the new Sonys or does Red do something different etc. with them?

They're usable. A Sony camera won't give detailed runtime estimates if you put Red batteries on it, but it will work.

It should work as long as the adapter sends the serial data through. Some do and some don't. They are the tiny spring pins next to the heavy power pins. I am not sure if Sony is doing anything to support AB or not though. I have always found the various "Time Left" attempts to be no better than the fuel gauge on the side of most batteries.

The Voltage indicator works best for me.
I've been using various GlobalMediaPro battery's and they work fine on all sorts of Sony's.
Waaaaaay cheaper then anything else out there.

I am not aware of Sony making accomodation for Anton Bauer systems in the past. I doubt things will change. With the combination of the A/B fuel guage and their hotswap device, people with these systems are pretty well served in terms of utility.

I am increasingly of the view that a camera owner should, where possible, purchase gear that is camera agnostic. I'm sure that has a certain resonance for people around here at the moment.
