GH4 Battery stuck in camera

i would dig an exacto knife into the seam of the battery, once separated, get a flat head in there and just lever the sucker out

Please don't do that. The battery is already bloated which means there's unlikely enough space for separation, and there's a good chance that the battery case can snap right off.

Also, to answer mmaller's question: No, there's no acid. It's a lithium-ion battery, and the electrolyte is normally a stable lithium salt.

thorn, what's the difference between putting the camera in the freezer (No lens attached, and placed in a plastic bag) and shooting outdoors in winter when it's 10 or 15 degrees out?
The camera is weather sealed and meant to be used in somewhat harsh conditions?

I may be wrong, it's just instinct... but my freezer (for example) consistently has issues with lots of moisture. Water droplets will form on the contents, or the walls, and then freeze and unfreeze and drip some (then repeat). Obviously I may need my freezer serviced, but combine that with the lack of air circulation - compared to an outdoor environment - and it's just not something I would do with my equipment. Maybe if the camera were sealed in a ziplock? Still would be hesitant...

But you're correct, the weather sealing may indeed protect it; I'd forgotten about that feature. Still not something I'd risk, just call it paranoia. Also, I dont know that the plastic casing on the battery is going to contract enough in the cold (compared to say, aluminum) to make removal easier. I'm not a plasticologist, though. ;)
