can someone tell me if the batteries that are sold on this forum will be flush with the back of the camera or if they will extend further?

The "9-hour" (which actually lasts about six hours) extends to exactly the end of the lip under the viewfinder (if that makes sense... look at the bottom of the tube of the viewfinder, and there's an indented section). The CGR-D54 extends back to fill in that gap.

great thanks barry. i'm looking at the profeel website http://www.profeel.com/agdvx100.htm and they have the 5 hour battery as the CGR-D28 and the 9 hour as the CGR-D53A. you mention the cgr-d54. i'm confused. which battery is this one? thanks!

the CGR28 battery only lasts 2 1/2 hours if you are lucky.. they call them 5 hour batteries because they fit on some smaller panasonic models that use much less power. Panasonic also makes a battery that is a belt pack, that may be what you are refering too.

That's the one. VW-VBD55 is the part # in Japan, in America it's being introduced as the CGR-D54.
I bought a VBD55 off ebay for about $80 from that same seller, and it ROCKS. Snatch those babies up quick, because they're the best battery for the camera, they last (comparatively) forever, they're much more convenient than the belt-pack, and they're the longest-lasting batteries you can get. Biz-max charges something like $200 for them. Shimwass sold me exactly what I expected, a brand-new sealed-in-the-pack VW-VBD55, which is the same as the CGR-D54.
