Battery pack for Edirol R-44

I don't have the R-44, but you can use a BDS, Battery Distribution System. It is a box that has 1 input and 6 outputs. This allows you the ability to power your mixer and recorder as well as up to 4 other pieces of equipment, i.e. wireless Rx, Tx, Phantom Power supplies etc.

Mine comes in tomorrow. :D

Using the BDS along with AAs for your recorder and 9v on your mixer allows you seemless power transitions during battery changes. Swap out your NP-1 battery for another and never miss a syllable.

Personally while I own a BDS myself. You shouldnt waste your money on one
especially if you're using some lower end gear.
It's overkill and the cost is extremely inflated.
It doesn nothing more than split 1 battery source into more, all controlled by one switch.
You still need to buy the actual battery and charger.

Its very easy to make your own distro unit.
You can buy the DC plugs in pigtailed versions for less then 2 dollars each.

Right now you need to decide what battery format you want to go with.

Sorry Cedric.

I don't consider a $1000 piece of equipment "low end" but the BDS does sound a bit overkill. I can understand if I needed to also power a mixer, wireless, etc. like Cedric.

I need something 9-16 volts/ 1.2 amps. The power line center pin must be negative. Apart from that I have no idea. I guess it should be small enough to fit in a bag or attach to the unit somehow.

I guess I am looking for specific batteries and cables that people are using with the R-44.

i didn't say LOW end.
I said LOWER end.
There IS a difference.
I'm not commenting on the quality when i said that.
I was commenting on the cost.

I personally would find it a waste to put a $300 +/- box (w/ cables)
in a bag with a grand worth of gear for the luxury of having an on/off switch.

Call me crazy.

No offense taken. I did find a couple of rigs that cost about $40 to put together. Just have to pull out the old soldering gun, I guess

Sorry Cedric.

I actually got mine for $150 with batteries and the cahrger only cost me 25 bucks on ebay. Although it is a used version 2 it seems to work just fine. I was also curious so I had to open it to look at it closer. I think I will attempt to make one myself and resell this one. That is if I can get one operating properly.

I think my only issue is the battery cup.

If just powering your R44, get a small battery block that has the potential of recharging and terminate the end strips with an XLR4 connector so that you can connect this into the R44's XLR4 DC power input.

I am so glad that I did not purchace this BDS at the new price. It is great to have. But like Rippie said it is WWAAAAAAYY over priced for what it is. Although you can provide power to multiple pieces of equipment from one battery the batteries and cahrger is extremely expensive. You have to search for these used.

*EDIT* You don't save money using it but you can save your client some money on expendibles. But it will pay for itself in the long run.

Wow this BDS has been plugged in for over 8hr and 36 minutes and is still going. I think this was a really wise investment.

Cedric when you say BDS are you talking about the Remote Audio BDS?

Or are you talking about a particular battery?

Sorry I mean the used Aspen battery. It is an Ni-MH battery. I did not know what to expect from a used battery, especially since it was not a rechargeable Li-Ion.
