Battery idea for M2 owners

Years ago, I bought a QuickStream DV from MCE Tech. I've had mixed feelings about it, but... I bought a battery with it that I hooked up to my M2 over the weekend. It went all day and shows that it's only down about 20%. And the best part is that it's light weight and mounts to the top/back of the HVX (you can see it in this picture --- right in front of the viewfinder http://15minuteslatermovie.com/hvxrig.html). I actually have two of these batteries, so if they turn out to be as long-lasting as they seem, I could go weeks without having to charge again. Here's the link for the battery:http://store.mcetech.com/Merchant2/...e=QSDVBATT35&Category_Code=DV&Product_Count=4

How did you connect it to the M2? Did you need an extra cable to connect to the M2's 9v 500ma port?

Thanks for the info.

Mark, what arm is that you have the Marshall fixed onto? I am looking for a good sturdy arm to hold it, as the one that Marshall provide with the monitor is a waste of space.

Got a URL?

Hi Steve,
Not sure if this is right thread for this, but I went with the Zacuto kit. They use Noga arms and the Marshall is very happy perched on them. They now have a store which is well stocked:
Zacuto Store

The marshall itself is going back, all sorts of glitches and banding/lines and is generally very poor for the price. I've seen that others have had Marshall 'tweak' it to sort these issues out so I might try that first.

That Zacuto stuff looks very nice but expensive.

You have an M2 as well. Do you have to shim it at all with the Zacuto base plate?

You have to get the right adapters --- I bought a little kit that had a bunch of different right angle adapters at Radio Shack for under $10.

Thanks for this. Just today I was discussing with a DP how to get around the relatively short life span of the M2 battery. I have seen others using a large rechargeable battery (Steve I think you may have pointed this out on the RR forum a while ago) but I really want a compact solution. Lots to investigate!

It is quite pricey, but once it arrived I couldn't be happier. The quality is excellent and the Zacuto people are great, just the other day they sent me a free set of rods as they had developed a new design and wanted me to have them!

The other really great thing is that you don't need to shim anything with the Zacuto baseplate and rods with the M2 and an HVX200. The rods pass all the way to the back and the whole system becomes very modular and easy to have multiple setups for different needs. I also went with the back plate and battery mount which powers my HVX200, Marshall and Firestore. The only issue with this is balance, so in some situations I do need a longer tripod plate to offset the weight.

Steve have you checked out FlipFlop yet? Maybe useful to you:

What about taking a 9v battery connector and wiring that to an adapter plug that fits into the m2's power socket? Or I was thinking about drilling a hole and extending the internal battery connector and running it outside the m2. Then you could just velcro the battery to the m2 outside. Simple changing of 9v's. If you look at Quyen's Letus 35 design, he incorporates an external 9v case with the wire going inside the unit.

Hey Steve,
I actually bought two of these batteries on your recommendation. Yes, they work great. But they are extremely bulky. The battery I'm recommending has now lasted many days (shooting here and there --- one of those days, it was on almost all day) and is still showing about half a charge. It's also very small and convenient. So, considering that I'm getting days of use, I think the extra cost is worth it. D&P
