Battery Grip?

I did with my Mark II but only for shooting still. I don't know if I can think of a reason to add the weight and height for video as it does nothing. It is really only for shooting in portrait mode and extra batteries.
It might be like matte boxes on a cheap setup to look more pro. The grip was traditionally a very expensive motor drive that only pros would splurge on.

I could never shoot through one battery without the time to switch.

Yeah... Depending on what base plate you are using it might actually be easier to get the one battery out from the bottom than the two from the back. And like mentioned: the extra bulk just isnt worth it.

I use a battery grip with six Eneloop. I love those batteries because they don't lose their charges much. I have now a lot of the AA size, and I can use them for the camera, but also for the flashes, portable LED lights, etc.. One battery type rules them all :) The only problem with the grip is that cages with enough height clearance are not common.
I also use this charger and love it: "Titanium Smart Fast 16 Bay Ni-MH AA/AAA Battery Charger"

I have the grip and use it. Unlike the battery grip for the 7D, the batteries come out the side in a tray, so you can feel like you're loading a clip of ammo into a gun when you put it back in. Unlike some I don't have any guns at home so that's a + for me :) The right side has been erratically refusing to communicate with the camera and send charge info, though I can still use the power. Rebooting seems to help. It also makes it easier to do handheld because you have more weight in the back. Maybe. Since it adds 30% more apparent body mass it gives an added impression of beefiness, as DSLRs go.

I use the grip, but I shoot a lot of handheld and a lot of stills with it too. I don't like it as much when I have to mount it on a tripod or rig since it's another connection that can be less than tight and a potential point for more wiggle.
As far as ergonomics, I've got bigger hands so the extra area is a plus for me.
