Battery grip and viewfinder

I have a T2i with a DIY viewfinder on a thin piece of metal attached to the mounting screw under the camera and my tripod plate under that. I want to buy a battery grip but want to keep my viewfinder set up as well. Would one of you with a battery grip try to mount the grip with a penny sandwiched between the camera and grip? Also with a quarter? I want to know if it mounts secure and if the battery contacts still meet properly. Thank in advance for your testing!

I built a similar diy viewfinder for my father's 500d

if I used it with the grip, I got problems with electrical contact, even though the metal plate for the diy viewfinder was quite thin (in your metrics, a penny or less)

I wouldn't recommend it at all

now I have a 550d, and I'm still using the same diy viewfinder; the grip is on its way from an ebay seller; when it gets here my plan is to build a supporting arm out of a leg of an ultracheap small gorillapod knockoff

Thanks for the insight. Like you my grip is on the way, I figured I may end up building an arm up from the bottom.

Using a gorilla pod is a great idea, since it would allow for movement of the viewfinder when you don't want to use it.

Thanks again, I'll cobble something else together when the grip comes in.
