Battery clips broke

Hey gang, the holding clips of my HMC151 broke off!!! I rented it out and had the camera returned in the current state.
The clips that I'm talking about are the little plastic holders that keep the battery in place.

Needless to say, this sucks.

What are my options? Is this a part that is easy to replace, or will I have to replace the entire body?
Can I get my insurance to cover this? How would a warranty cover this case?

I have no idea what to do next, but I'm pretty annoyed by this.

I would send it to Panasonic and have them give you an estimate. I would then prepare a bill for the guy that rented it and expect him to pay for it. I rather doubt that it would be covered by warranty but willing to be surprised.

Best,

jan

One HMC-150 rule of thumb that I always follow is never ship your HMC-150 with a battery in place. Always ship with the battery removed.

I don't know if this should be applied to the HPX-170 too.

One rule of thumb that I always follow is to *never* rent my HMC150 out unless the renter leaves a cash deposit equal to the full value of a new camera.

Of course, no one has done this yet and for this reason I haven't rented out my camera at all. The $100 or whatever they're usually willing to pay is just not worth it.

What was your agreement with the guy and was it in writing?

I rent my HMC150 out, but I also have business insurance that covers equipment rentals to 3rd parties, and I take a credit card number down on every rental agreement... that way if something comes back broken or doesn't come back, I can just bill the renter.

It shouldn't be too expensive to have your battery clips repaired, but you may be without your camera for some time. My HVX200A's battery clips snapped off when a freelance shooter transported the camera with the big extended-life battery attached, and it took almost 4 weeks to get it back from Panasonic's service. I forgot how much that cost, but I didn't pay too much attention to it - I just had my business insurance take care of it. Good luck to you! Let us know how it gets resolved!
