batteries

I bought my batteries from this Dvx forum for both the Dvx100 and the HVX200 so now I'm looking for some long lasting batteries for my 5d mk3 any ideas????

In my experience, the OEM batteries outlast any of the 3 or so different aftermarket batteries I've been using.

I agree, the canon ones do last longer, but considering they cost $60ea, i'd rather have three of these:

I have four of those batteries, they charge in the normal canon charger, have had no issues with them. You can buy cheaper ones now (i bought these at least a year ago), but these shipped really quickly and i'd buy them again. The only times when a oem battery is a must is for timelapse where you may need the most amount of shots without taking the battery out.

I'll add that the charger you use is the most important part of the equation: a bad charger will kill any battery (original or knockoff) in just a few charging cycles, while a good charger (usually, the one that comes with the camera) will help them have a long and prosperous life. I wouldn't buy any batteries that cannot be charged on the original charger.

Unless you need a lot of batteries, I'd stick with the OEM.

I have some Flashpoint andPearstone 3rd party for my T4i. In testing, they last for about 5/8 of the time of my Canon batteries (just over 1/2 the time.)

They also seem to drain quickly when sitting in the camera, unused. I never use them in the field, because the Canon will last through most shoots (2 hours total on video; 500+ still images.)

There might be some better 3rd party batteries, but I haven't found them yet.

Best,
Michael

(Q: I have a strange problemat DVX – The “Enter”/carriage return key to start a new line doesn’t work. Anyone else? This only happens at DVX. I need to try another computer to see if it is my laptop. Just upgraded to Windows 8. I edited this in Word, works fine there. Thx!)

I always use a battery grip and Eneloop AA battery inside. It is SO nice not to worry about battery drain anymore.

I hadn't considered that option. What is battery life like with six Eneloop AAs compared to two Canon LP-E6 batteries?

Practically, I don't know because I never used the grip with two Canon LP-E6 batteries.

Theoretically, each LP-E6 is 1800 mAh, per specification. Make it 3600 mAh with two of them. With Eneloop AA, capacity ranges from 1500 mAh to 2500 mAh, with 2000 mAh being the most common and cost effective. So here is your theoretical difference, 3600 versus 2000 mAh.
But here is what I love with Eneloop: I bought like 32 of them and used them on my three Speedlites, video monitor, lighting, and flash wireless transceivers. And because of their low discharge rate, I know I can pick any of this equipment anytime and it's ready to go. So why not doing the same for the camera. Plus, even if their capacity is lower, I always another set of 6 Eneloop already charged. If I were to go with Canon LP-E6, that means 4 of them if I need to swap.
If you do the route of AA Eneloop, make sure to get a good charger. I love mine, the LaCrosse BC-700. If you decide to use the LP-E6, I will sell you mine, I never used it :)

Jawflyer3: what are their charge time? I got to go to an island with no elec for about four weeks so got to really pack up in advance. Shooting on the 5d mkiii

OEM lpe6's are not long lasting. i find the mk3 chews up lpe6's like no tomorow, and i would go through 5 in an all day wedding shoot.

I have also a mixed bag of chinese lpe'6 which apparently are chipped, but these dont last as long, and the mk3 doesnt read them properly. They never reach 1 bar empty, and dont flash red, they just die and shut off without warning.

i recently bought 4 of these packages.

plan to use them for EVF's and LCD's mostly. they do work in my 5DmkIII & mkII even though the canon type battery from Zacuto for my EVF did not work in my 5D's. i was surprised when the cameras fired up.

im reading a lot of negative on this thread and i may find out that these arent as good as Canon brand but at this price and the very excellent reviews from people that purchased these seemed like was worth a chance and really a no brainer for my EVF's etc.

$120 total for 8 batteries, 4 chargers & 4 car chargers. really comical. ive used them already for a few jobs and no problems so far and have lasted long on my EVF's. still it wont surprise me if they fall short like many here suggest.
