I just finished rewatching Batman vs Superman and I'm curious if anyone knows. How did they achieve the portrait lens look? It was used throughout most of the movie. Was it the focal length or maybe it was the resolution in combination with a focal length? Most of the scenes has a tight look as if it was being shot with an 85mm. Was that it? Here are some examples below of how tight the shot is.

Depends on which camera setup they were using. But a Hasselblad 80mm was used a bunch because of it's close focus ability. Larry also used a Hasselblad 100mm with diopter set for many of the shots.

How did they achieve the portrait lens look?

That look can be achieved with any camera provided you shoot with a short telephoto that is fast enough to give you the DOF you are after.

That was just one example of spherical lens use on 65mm cameras.

Don't forget that Larry also used Panavision C & E series anamorphics, as well as half a dozen zooms.

Also don't forget that an 80mm lens on a 65mm camera gives a completely different angle of view as an 80mm on a S35mm camera.
