Batman Begins (saw it)

Yeah, I really don't get all the problems people are having with the voice. I thought Bale was just perfect, you could not ask for a better Batman AND Bruce Wayne, and the voice worked, expecially the scene where he has the guy hanging upside down and he's 'growling angrily' at him in the rain... that was perfect... and I don't get people complaining about the lack of 'comic book' poses either, they are definitely there, pretty much every shot where Batman is still, with the cape wrapped around him, is a great comic book pose... and so you know, I read Batman growing up off and on, and I've read all of Frank Miller's books.

This was the first of the 'comic book movies' that is simply a great film, and not just a great comic book movie. And I loved Spiderman 2, liked the first one, loved X2, liked the first one... Hulk was a valiant attempt but a mixed bag (what the hell was up with the ending?) Daredevil, Punisher, Elektra, total crapola.

lol well sry :(

lol but really, NOT TO KNOCK ANYONE! IMHO, i get the disguise thing, but it just sounded too cheesey to me, if it didnt bother you then i envy you because i had a hard time not thinking how silly it was. I'm glad it didnt bother you.

I didn't think the movie was bad but there were a few things i just couldnt seem to look past even though i tried. And mainly had to do with how it took me a little out of the movie everytime batman was on screen. I enjoyed everyminute of bruce wayne, yet Batman seemed a little rediculous. :( It mainly was the voice thing combined with a tiny problem with the costume where his neck and shoulders are sooo thick it doesnt look like he can turn his head and is raising his shoulders up. Everytime i saw him in that awkward costume talking "that" way it was just too distracting for me.

so yeah, I'm actually jealous of the ppl who just dont care about it, I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

(on a side note, my favorite thing was the last 8 minutes, where Bruce takes back the company, Alfred suggests "new foundation", and Gordon gives the tip about a bank robber with a similar interest it the "Theatrical". I'm thouroughly impressed that my fovorite part of the movie took place after the main action was done with, and now im sooo psycked about the potential of a sequel i dont wanna wait!) :)

The voice didn't bother me at all. I loved it. It was ferocious as hell, especially when he interrogated Gordon's partner. The entire 600 person IMAX crowd jerked back everytime he roared. It conveyed how much rage and anger he truly has for those destroying his city, his home. How he walks the line between vigilante and masked psycotic.

The soft spoken Batmans have always bothered me. Why the hell would I fear that? I think soft spoken people tend to be on the more reasonable side and that's exactly the opposite of what Batman should induce.

Finally they got it right. Remember, what's good on the page (comic or script) doesn't mean it'll be good on the screen. They adapted this story properly and with great care.

Cheese, it's all good bro, you are entitled to your opinion just like I'm entitled to disagree with it.

BTW - You're dead wrong on all counts. ;)

I agree on the ending... I did NOT see that coming SPOILER WARNING STOP READING IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT: - !!!rekoJ ehT I wonder who they will cast to play a younger version, those are big shoes to fill! (Jack) Please, Warner Bros, keep Nolan and Co together for at least a trilogy of Batman flicks, and I will be a very happy camper.

It's interesting what's going on. I think Warner Bros. has actually grown smarter in the past decade. Perhaps by getting their asses handed to them by Sony & Fox on the superhero front. Hell they stole Singer from Fox for Supes.

What's scary is that Fox is now going the old way of Warner Bros. Cutting budgets, demanding unrealistic deadlines and using sub-par but "safe" directors. X3 is rumored to have 3 major characters killed off, it focuses on Storm and Brett Ratner's directing.

There one thing I found, the photography of some of the action scenes was so fast and choppy they seemed almost random.

saw it last night .. i liked it alot. was a good action flick. my wife even enjoyed it. voice thing made sense. hes trying to scare people remember.. that was a big part of why he's wearing the bat suit and not his more accustomed ninja outfit or somthing like it in style. why not talk in a scarier voice.. why not alter your own recognizable voice.. even the old guy running wayne enterprizes recognized bruces voice after he'd been gone for quite a while. as someone said his normal voice is wimpy.. well thats not very scray is it? it was all about become something other and more than what he was in and of himslef.. he is a different person /thing altogether when he puts on the outfit.. that was a big part of thr point of the film.. sorry to anyone that missed that. but anyway was good. hand to hand combat action scenes were a bit destabilizing, but all in all worked really well. was enjoyable from beginning to end..

possible spoilers######

and the end was a suprise for some reason with who the villain was, but when i thought about it it made perfect sense.. he , and we shouldve seen it coming.. , because he was already told what was going on in the beginning of the film by the villain. but just like him.. we forget as the movie goes on. the end was merley a sudden reminder.. not a twist. --some clever plot development there.

Saw it today...

Batman has begun!

EDIT: Oh, just found this on IMDB:
Before the shooting began, Christopher Nolan invited the whole film crew to a private screening of Blade Runner (1982). After the film he said to the whole crew, "This is how we're going to make Batman."

And, damn, it shows

what batman movies should have been to start with.

i just enjoyed the entire film, minus of course the terrible batman voice and the lisp of lisps in there, my god.

but i really liked to see bruce struggle and go thru what he did. makes you feel closer to him than any other batman films.

i went in with expectations of a cheese flick, but i really enjoyed it. Ill buy the dvd for sure.

It freggin' rocked!! I was really upset reading some of the reviews commenting on how the action was filmed in a similar fashion to Bourne Supremacy; I was worried to say the least. But upon seeing it, I found that is not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Don't expect a campy film with roller-skating villains and neon colors. Nolan has made the best Batman film thus far, and establishes Gotham in a really incredible light. Going to see it again in a week or two. One of those movies that you really think about how amazing it is after you've left and had time to digest it. Many of the shots stuck with me, especially:

*******SPOILER*************

When Batman grabs the Scarecrow and gives him that neurotoxin. When we finally get to see what Crane is seeing (some weird Gothic Batman creature) it just has stuck in my mind. Awesome.

I liked it very much; it most definitely got it right -- though I'm also a big fan of the first Burton movie, which I also (still!) feel got it right. The movies are products of their times . . .

But all the other movies (1989-1997) not only didn't deal with Wayne, they were only tangentially about Batman. This one was about Wayne first, Batman second, and the villains after that.

There were, of course, not a whole lot of surprises for people familiar with the source material.

Liked it VERY much, and will definitely own it -- but I do have some quibbles . . .

---spoilers------

While I loved the design of Gotham City, I'm not sure I buy into the implication that Penguin, Joker, Riddler, et al (the supervillians of Gotham) were created by the Scarecrow toxin. Gotham can be plenty bad on its own. (I know there was a storyline in the comics where inner Gotham was destroyed and all the bridges were blown, and this appears to at least be inspired by it.)

And . . . on the microwave emitter . . . this thing is supposed to be powerful enough to vaporize the water supply of an entire city, yet a whole number of walking sacks of water had no problem traipsing all around it, behind it, in front of it, et al, while it was doing the vaporizing.

SPOILER

Why did Batman need Gordon to blow up the bridge?

Do you mean the monorail foundation? If so, it was because he wanted to stop the wave emitter before it reached the center of the city at Wayne Tower

He had to save his woman. And he was trying to stop Ras before he got the train going. Gordon was the back-up and failsafe.

Loved it! Someone finally got Batman's portrayal right

Awsome introduction of how a superhero came to be, good validation and explanation of his weaponry (no ice skates) and I loved how he could call the swarm of his little bat freinds to assit.

It has erased the previous Batman movies from my memory (not the 70's tv show, that will require therapy)

This may be a big call but - possibly one of the best superhero movies ever, can't wait to see what he'll do with the next one.

Awesome movie, perhaps the best this year (so far, at least). Now, if someone could make Hudson go out and watch it... he still thinks it's something along the lines of Spiderman/X-Men :undecided
