Batman arrested!!

What crossed my mind--and it is total conjecture--is that when a mother and sister make a claim like this, it sounds an awful lot like an intervention. Like they see him in trouble and they're trying to get him and his handlers to wake up. Because when the machine has this much riding on his stardom (all those agents and studios and producers), they might not be inclined to put a stop to anything right now. Maybe his family sees he's in trouble and needs him to get help.

This is all gossip...

and we all know how this board love's their gossip.:zombie_smiley:

sometimes it's like the freakin' national inquirer.:engel017:

and apparently I'm hooked on smilies:kiss::Drogar-Smoke(DBG)::beer::Drogar-Love(DBG)::bath::violin:

Jeesh. Let's wait until we have something worth talking about. Right now, it's all conjecture.

Off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush:Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

I'm a believer in open discussions of all topics, including things which may be labeled as gossip. It was worth reporting by major news agencies. And is worth discussing as members of an industry interested in how our industry works, is reported on, is seen, is talked about. It IS conjecture. Just like discussing true motives for going to Iraq is conjecture--we weren't in the room. It's still worth talking about. When it comes to celebrities, many see all "conjecture" as off limits. "Gossip" isn't going away. It's the flipside of fame. Can't have one without the other. Good news about a celebrity is just as "worthwhile" discussing as bad news. If anyone finds a discussion about celebrities to be distatesful, I think they should just turn away from the discussion. My two cents.

Assault (at least in USA law) is a very different charge than battery.

In short, an "assault" occurs when one or more persons fears another person committing physical harm. The assault charge concerns the mental state of the would be victim. Assaults do not entail physical contact.

A "battery" occurs when actual physical contact takes place.

So you can have an assault without a battery. (When a person fears negative physical contact that never occurs.)

You can also have a battery without an assault (eg. when the victim is blindsided by an assailant).

So, it's possible that Bale got into a heated discussion with his family, and that they feared harmful physical contact. That would be an assault. But (in my book) that's a long way from actual battery. I suspect that most families have seen "assaults" at one point or another. (Like that time in high school I told my Dad the car was impounded...)
