batch capture vs. capture now

so I was wonderin. With a tape that has a time-code break, you can turn off the setting which stops the capture if there was a time-code break. So, with this off, you can still capture the footage with a timecode break and no problem right?

Will there be a difference when logging and capturing in batch/clip from capturing now?
dropped frames? audio?

Re: batch capture vs. capture now

I guess the question is where is the timecode break? Is it right in the middle of a crucial scene? If so, then I would just select Capture Now. Or you could Batch Capture up to around the the break then fast forward just past the break and start capturing again from that point as well.

Re: batch capture vs. capture now

If you're batch capturing a tape with a timecode break, you need to be mindful of the tape's position when you initiate the batch capture. FCP will cue the tape to the timecode of the first clip to be captured. If there is a timecode break between the tape's current position and the in-point of the first clip, then you'll run into problems from the get-go. In such an example, you'd want to manually cue the tape near the in-point of the first clip to be captured (or at least past the timecode break).

With capture now (and the option to stop in the event of a timecode break turned off), you shouldn't experience any problems related or caused by the timecode breaks. For even more assurance of a problem free capture, you could turn off device control and manually capture the tape.
