Basic White Balance question

In the old DVX100B, DVC60 days I used to manually set white balance when shooting indoors with multiple cameras otherwise there would be major color matching problems using auto as it would obviously change around and be fooled. However shooting outdoors using auto white balance would match fine. Do you find the same to be generally true shooting outdoors with say the HMC 150 and HMC40?

My reason for considering auto white balance outdoors would be an event outdoors in the morning or late afternoon where the sun color temperature is changing. Let's say I manually set WB for all cameras using a card or use a preset... well 20 minutes later the color temperature has now changed so they are all now off (albeit matching each other but all off the true white balance).

What is the best approach to those scenarios? Obviously re-white balancing everything as the lighting changes, but in a continuous event that is not an option.

Thank you in advance for any help with this.

I can't speak to the specific camera, however, I would recommend matching WB ahead of time using the daylight preset and keeping it there. The truth is that even if the sun color temperature is going to be very warm, the shadows are going to stay very cool. setting it to daylight while the sun is still high will give you something in between and the sun light will appear golden which is true to how it should look like time of day even if it's not totally neutral. I don't like matching cameras WB with a card because it could still vary from camera to camera depending on the specific light is hitting the card at that moment but without a kelvin WB adjustment you migth have to for the tricky light situations.
