Basic Question: Options to show video just to forum members?

I share my videos just using DVD/Blu-ray and am not knowledgeable about using internet to share video. However, I have occasions where I would like to share video with limited group--for instance show video only to this forum to show a problem/question I have. In this context I have heard about a feature in Sorenson Squeeze 8.5 called Sorenson 360 Review and Approval which may allow this--it offers something called a "permalink" and is a 5GB per month cloud based service. Has anyone in this forum used Sorenson 360 and/or what other easy method would you recommend that would let me give just this forum a link to see my video?

Very basic question and I chose HMC40 forum to ask because probably the only place I would want to show video. Video I have seen on this forum is very good and I imagine also intended for wider audience via You Tube and similar methods and I imagine once it is posted to You Tube or something it is open to anyone to view. In my case it would be video that has problems so I have no interest in having it accessible to wider audience beyond this forum.

In case it is relevant, I use Media Composer 6 as my NLE and am in continuing process of learning all its features. Thank you, Dennis

I use Vimeo and password-protect the video. To allow DVX visitors to view the video, embed the video here and paste the password above or below it. When you are done sharing, just change the settings in Vimeo.

Hi Dennis

It will still be available if you post it here to other forum users and even guests surely?? Do you want it to be ONLY available say, to registered members of DVXUser and only those on HMC forums?? If so the mods would have to create a special "members only" forum so outsiders cannot see. At present the only way you could do it would be with PM's to people who want the link or password!

Thank you for feedback Dave and Chris. I had not thought of your points Chris (all DVX members and visitors could access even with a password) since posting video is all new to me. It is not so much that I need to keep video secret, but just that I would most appreciate help/advice from those who have interest/experience in video and sometimes just specific to HMC40--ie this forum. So it would be ok if others in DVX forums saw video and my mistakes/problem footage. It sounds like password protected Vimeo would work and I have since talked to Sorenson and it sounds like their 360 Review and Approval feature would also work. I actually have not used Sorenson Squeeze but it has been included through a series of upgrades in my NLE so it is available whenever I get time to learn to use it. Dennis

Hi Dennis

You could also just upload to YouTube and keep the video unlisted. That way on people who visit the HMC forum will find the link and watch the video...no-one else can find it on YouTube cos it's unlisted...That's what I do with my "test" clips

Hi Chris, The unlisted You Tube route you mention might be the easiest method. I suppose my next question should be what resolution is suggested to (1) minimize download or bandwidth impact on members computers while (2) providing minimum level of resolution that would demonstrate video question? For instance, my first test video will probably be race cars at various shutter speeds (probably 1/120 and extreme end of my test spectrum 1/1000) shot at 720 60p. Not sure if I could afford stuttering due to issues with You Tube or Vimeo or whatever I use to play over internet. Dennis
