Basic maybe silly semantic question

Have read the instruction to and fro but couldn´t find an answer.
Which is Automatic White Balance and which is Manual White Balance

AWB or ATW

Is
A Automatic - if so why name the manual button AWB
W White
B Balance

What does the T in ATW stand for and why does the lcd screen say
ATW when I push the AWB button.

You can save a AWB setting to one of the manual white balance buttons. A or B.

Why ATW is popping up on your LCD I don't know but I'll guess that because you cannot use AWB when you are using ATW that the camera is trying to tell you that you are in ATW mode.

it couldn´t be Auto as it is the manual setting.

If I in SW mode
set ATW to OFF
Then I can manually white balance to either Ach and Bch

If I then in SW mode set
ATW to User 1
ATW lock to User 2

I can choose between BTW or ATW and lock ATW if I want.
Is this the right way to handle white balance with my HMC 151?

I don't know if there is a right way but I always adjust my white balance before a scene and then I don't change it unless my lighting changes or I move to a new scene.

I shoot in controlled environments 99% of the time so I have not used ATW.

For many, these terms are difficult to decipher as a native english speaker. I pity those trying to translate it.

ATW is Auto Tracking White (p40 in the manual). This is a function performed by the camera to automatically adjust the color temperature. It may not always be accurate, so mind your colors. The light meter is between the internal mics, inside with the tally light.

AWB is Auto White Balance (p39 in the manual). This is a function engaged when you press the AWB button on the front of the camera. It assumes that the subject in the viewfinder is white and balances color temperatures from this reference point.

There is no true "manual white balance" on the hmc150. You can tweak them in the scene files, but only slightly. I have only seen manual white balance on high-end digital cinema cameras (such as Red).
